This maybe obvious but have you gone to control panel and sound and devices and checked that the mute button is un-ticked? also go to check the new updates that you have had for windows and try uninstalling the following update.

    msKB933566..

As microsoft has already had similiar problems with this update..

How do I look for new updates?

It is definately not muted. I have checked that.

Control Panel-Go to Programes & features, on the left hand side you will see, recent Widows updates, click on that and all the updates will appear. then erase the fualty update, Be careful when you are doing this as you don't want to unistall the wrong update.

It has internal speakers. How do I uninstall and reinstall the sound drivers?

I thought most computers needed to have external speakers to play sounds. Some monitors do have attached speakers, but the audio cable from the monitor needs to be attached to the audio port on the computer for the sound to work.

Are you sure the internal speakers are not on the monitor?

do you have a speaker icon, bottom right?

where are these internals speakers? is it plugged in correctly? does a set of headphones work?
