I know the first trust have no fees if you lift money from an AIB atm is the south, but they do for paying by card.

As for the toll - i didn't even know you could pay by card. I think as it's the main road from Belfast to Dublin Sterling should be accepted at it, (as correct change only at a set price of say £1.70)
I find myself stopping at the service station to get money to pay the toll nearly every time.

Parisien. What have I done wrong? I don't understand the point you are trying to make re my bank manager. I am inclined to believe that there are charges for use of a debit card (Ulster Bank) in the Republic. Lazer indicates that AIB debit card use incurs fees. You are the person who started the thread and indicated that you have made ordinary purchases without charge.

The toll on the Belfast to Dublin M1 near Drogheda is Euro 1.90, definitely not 1.40, so not sure what route Parisien was on.

They occasionally accept Sterling cash - normally when there's a big match involving an Ulster club - and when they do it is the same amount in pounds as in Euro, ie, £1.90. They don't accept Sterling routinely however.

If I pay for anything by my NI bank card in RoI I expect to pay a fee - so I make sure I plan in advance so I have Euro cash to pay - if necessary by stopping off on route before the toll booths.

If a bank says "no fees" that generally just means it's recovering the cost by some other route - probably by varying the fx rate. TANSTAAFL.

I have to say, the toll which really winds me up is the Dublin one... Going round that ring road and all of the sudden you see a sign saying that you have to pay a toll! No booths. No warning, just "pay up". Great when you're driving down for the ferry, with uncertain internet access...

You can register your car and it will automatically take the money from your bank account at the end of the month.

You must be one of the few from Northern Ireland who ever pay this.

If you use it often enough it is best to pay.

They will chase the debt if you have a high enough bill.

...and how can they possibly pursue you when they don't know who you are? The only possible censure is arrest on your next visit.

    Unlikely.
