Could anyone please tell me, if Santander made a mistake on my account, are they allowed to go back into my account to rectify the mistake without contacting me, or do they have to contact me.

Depends what the mistake is, but if they did something like accidentally deposited £1,000,000 instead of £100 then yes, they can simply go "Correction -£999,900" or "Account adjustment".

They did put the wrong amount in, but that no longer shows on my account, it has been amended with the right figure, but nothing saying adjustment, or anything, is that allowed.

I don't think they are obliged to tell you.

If they spot an error its just correct it accordingly.

It wasn't yours in the first place, why even worry about it?

I presume, the mistake got noticed and rectified the same business day, before the day's closing balance was filed. I have seen that happen before.

If the adjustment would have happened a few business days down the line, they would have had to book an 'adjustment'.

I know it was never mine, I never said it was but I also don't think they should just be allowed to go into my account.

    Why shouldn't they?

What if they put in less than you expected? Should they not correct that?
