They are quite clearly labelled as a "one-cup" bag.

As do PG etc, but believe it or not some people use bags in teapots rather than loose leaf... My comment was concerned around the taste rather than the quantity of tea.

Much prefer the cheap stock cubes, especially tescos, no nasties at all.

Sainsburys Basics biscuits, especially custard creams. Just the right amount of filling.

Lemonade - any basic one for around 20p, can't abide Schweppes.

Waitrose Muesli - so much nicer than any other own brand or Alpen.

Then there's stuff I really can't tell a difference with enough to care, sainsburys basics cornflakes, tescos chopped toms with herbs, mild cheddar anywhere.

Sainsbury's Basics Back Bacon is fairly decent and quite cheap. In fact, there are very few things I don't like in the Basics range. You can't go wrong with 'ingredient' products -- e.g. rice, pasta, flour, beans, etc. I'm not a fan of the biscuits, however.

I started this thread not for things that were decent or good/great value.
But for things that are so great you would pay branded price for them (if you had too!), things that are as good as the finest & branded ranges.

Value rice is a great bargain at 40p per kilo. Cooks just as well as the branded ones. I do prefer Sainbugs to tescr"p.

For rice I nearly always get tilda, I buy more when on offer.
I find any other impossible to rinse!

I prefer Tesco value instant hot chocolate to their standard range instant hot chocolate. Neither of them are particularly 'pure' but the value stuff seems to have fewer ingredients which I'm hoping is a good thing. It tastes nicer anyway. I'd probably still prefer Cadbury Wispa stuff but I only buy that when on offer and the value one is my second choice.

Wispa and Wispa Gold are £1.50 for 246 grams at Asda at the moment :)

Always thought that too, so I'm not the only one :)

Tesco own brand Jaffa cakes are much better than the real thing - the real ones are too sweet.

I like basics tea bags too, and usually pick up the fruit and veg, they do things like aubergines in the basics range now.

I actually like smart price muesli. I did an online order once and they sent me the "chosen by you" one and it was too sugary and powdery. They do charge the cheaper price, but really, I would have enjoyed the smart price one better <hmm must go shopping at Mr A soon, not had muesli in a while>

DD (3) likes toasted tea cakes sometimes and the basics ones aren't overloaded with fruit. She likes a bit of currants but not too much so these are her favourite. She also has their cartons of apple juice drink on a Wednesday in her packed lunch - pure apple juice is too strong for her taste, which I can water down at home but she needs a container drink for wraparound care. These are £1.65 for 9 cartons I think.

Stock cubes are another, I find the value ranges ones are lower in salt. Win-win!
