I came home today to find that meter has been change to prepayment. Last bill has been issued end of march it was 467 (previous and current bill) since then i have made payment of £200 and had 267 outstanding( gas 104.00 the rest electricity) My gas has been disconnected until they do gas safety check this might take 2-5days . I have twin boys age 3 so that means no bath no home cooked meals for them. My question is can they just do it for debt of 104 which is not that old and they will charge my £53 for gas safety check and connection.

    You'd have been given notice.

In fact you'd have had lots of correspondence before a supplier has no option left but to forcibly replace a credit meter with a prepayment meter. You'd have been given plenty of opportunity to pay the money owed to avoid the prepayment meter, the costs associated with changing the meter and safe re-connection, and the inevitable higher price you will now be charged as a PPM customer.

Unfortunately, if you did not allow access to the property, then you will have no gas at present.

Best call the supplier and arrange a date & time they can re-connect you. They'll probably charge for that as well. ;) (the £53 was probably to attend and replace the meter - no additional charge would have been made if you allowed access at the time to allow for the safe turning on of the supply)

Wasn't nPower was it? Just the sort of low down stunt they'd get up to.

i had 1 and only 1 letter saying if you don't pay we might change it. but since then i have made payment of 200. and they will charge me 53 for reconnecting gas. I have been always paying on time until last bill, but i still have made payment the outstanding bill well not in full but almost half.

even they give at least 90 days notice, through their collection paths. As supplier doesnt just change the meters.

Going by the amount sounds like a purge and relight charge, if you send them proof you have kids they will do it same or next day.
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
