I turned the heater off a couple of hours ago and I am still getting very very hot water out of the tap. So maybe it didn't turn off? Even though I turned it off at the wall and the meter mains switch thing.

You're probably just using up the water that was already hot.
  • Spark already told me I am on their cheapest available tariff.

Switch to a different supplier? Try a comparison site like uswitch or energyhelpline.

The water is hot in the tank, insulated and padded.... it'll stay hot for several/many hours after it's turned off. It'll be cold in the morning..... and even by tea-time tonight.

"Very very hot"? What temperature is the thermostat set to on the tank? Should be where the immersion heater enters the tank. You really don't need it any higher than 60C.

BTW it may benefit you to learn about the basics... http://www.aphc.co.uk/UNDERSTANDING%20HOT%20WATER%20SYSTEMS%20IN%20THE%20HOME%20Dec13.pdf

I don't know what temp but I turned all the dials down on the thing I'm guessing is water temperature.

    Thanks for the pdf

Wow ! I would hate to see their expensive rates :eek:

    My rates are:

    12.82p
    5.67p
    21.92p S/C

    (Includes DD discount etc)

Don't see why you can't get somewhere near those rates

You are not going to find an E7 day rate much less than 17 or 18p per kWh.

    See above..............

From your posts I guess that you inherited Spark as the supplier to the property when you moved in, and that there is a clause in your lease that you continue to use them.

Spark have two tariffs for these 'captive' customers - One is for those paying the bills on demand as you are doing which really is expensive, and the other is for customers paying by monthly Direct Debit, which is cheaper but still not a bargain.

If you were not informed by Spark of these options when you moved in, then you are entitled to complain which you should do in writing, heading the letter Complaint

Please note that the Spark tie-in clause in your lease is not worth the paper it's written on - You are legally entitled to change supplier
Spark have a history of being very difficult when a customer wants to leave them, so it actually pays to be a Complainer in that Spark don't want to keep 'awkward' customers
