Change Profile

I am with Talktalk and am having problems with slow speed.
It started off ok at about 5Mbps but is now down to 1Mbps.
It seems you get the best results if you post the problem on their forum.
If it's proved their is no problem inside the house (ie after the main BT socket) they are able to change the profile which can increase the speed.
Can someone please tell me what changing the profile entails and if it works?
From what I gather they also change the profile by lowing the speed and making the connection more stable. Perhaps that is what they have done to me!

Basically they lower the speed until the line returns stable results .
If in your case you ask the ISP to raise the profile you may end up with frequent bad connections .
Profile can drop for a number of reasons usual is noise on the line .0
