Would anyone know where I could buy ink cartridges for my Epson Sx125 thats likely to be cheaper than the 'Bay?
Need a full set.
I'm assuming I must have had a software 'upgrade' at some point and now it seems to only like their genuine cartridges...

Thanks as usual

Not possible. Printer manufactures lock their printers down to there own inks. Its a cheap printer but very expensive ink
Do you want your money back, and a bit more, search for 'money claim online' - They don't like it up 'em Captain Mainwaring

Considering a set of genuine cartridges may well set you back £20-£30 or so it may well be cheaper long term to dispose of the Epson and buy a different brand that doesn't resort to underhand tricks.

My Epson works fine on compatibles so I don't recognise these 'underhand tricks' you speak of.

Make sure you don't apply any firmware updates then.

It has been widely reported that Epson have offered a driver update for some models which also included a firmware update that blocks the use of compatible cartridges. I'd suggest you search google for the umpteen reports of this.

It automatically did an update a couple of weeks ago.. no problems yet. Odd that this seems to affect some but not all.

It's not even worth looking for genuine cartridges from another country - manufacturers are now locking inks to markets, so a cartridge from UAE (still costing the same as ones from the UK) won't work in the printer - locked out by software.

Epson are bad, HP are worse, they're all dreadful.

I used compatible ink with an Epson inkjet and it gummed it up - ended up binning it.

IIRC that was a common complaint with Epsons (cant remember if it was just my particular model though) at the time (about 3 years ago) so I have avoided them since - other makes have been fine with compatible ink.

It's probably only the newer ones that can have their firmware updated. The check is in the firmware not in the driver. I have an SX200 that won't be impacted. I've been given a Brother that works out very cheap on compatibles and when I've exhausted my supply of Epson ink (a couple of sets left now) I'll be giving that a try.

The other killer of Epson printers is the waste ink pad - that is judged full based on pages printed and the internal counter has to be reset as well as replacing the pad.

I work in the industry and have seen this a few times, epson printers are programmed to complain if you don't use genuine cartridges, however, most will work fine on compats, in extreme cases where the printer absolutely refuses we've found that running one genuine along with the other 3 compats normally solves the problem. Quite often, when you install new compats, the printer will try and fool you by saying 'incompatible cartridge' if you get this message, try re-installing the cartridge. sometimes it may take 2 or 3 attempts but they will work. We sell thousands of Epson compats with a very low fail rate, most of the machines customers bring into the shop I get working so it's mostly down to the user either not being persistent, being put off by the messages or just being scared of technology.
