Broadband

My Sky TV, broadband and Talk is due to end today. I phoned the retentions team and they said they couldn't make me any offers until tomorrow. I said I wanted to ensure I still had broadband cos I haven't had time to sort out a new provider. They said they could either cancel my Broadband cancellation and I can continue to paying the same price or they could phone me tomorrow and offers me discounts on everything but that it would take up to 2 weeks to have my B/band reinstored.
I opted to continue paying the same price for my Broadband to ensure that I wasn't cut off, when I told the agent this she said that would be fine but that she couldn't guarantee that even if she cancelled the B/band cancellation that I may still have to wait up to 2 weeks for it to be reinstored, she said she was unable to tell what would happen until she cancelled the cancellation. I told her that if that was the case I might as well go with a new provider who could offer me better discounts than Sky could.

My question is if my Broadband is cancelled can I take my Ipad to my friend's house and log in at her house using her wifi until I sort mine out?

But you wouldn't be 'cut off'. Your contract does not end today, only your minimum term- does-the contract then continues as before on 30 days notice. If you gave notice today you'd still have 30 days service. The agent you spoke to was seemingly clueless.

I gave notice a month ago, they contacted me once just after I cancelled but they didn't offer me much, especially as I am with them for TV movies and sport, broadband and talk and my monthly bill would be nearly £85.00 without any discounts. The agent I spoke to didn't seem to know what would happen if I continued with Sky broadband in that she couldn't tell me whether I would still be cut off for up to 2 weeks or not until she actually went through with it, not sure if she was clueless or just new and she said a manager was not available to ask.

When my phone and broadband is cut off the only way I'll be able to contact Sky is via someone else's wifi as personally I will have no wifi or phone.

Assuming your broadband and phone are cut off then there will be a disconnection fee to pay and you will need a new phone line to get broadband again. There will probably be more than 2 weeks lead time on that.

You should have looked around for alternatives and asked Sky for a MAC. That way there would be no additional termination fee and no break in service when you switched to the new provider. As it is you'll probably either be paying for the new phone line or having an 18 month minimum term on the new contract.

It's too lateto stop the termination now as Openreach will have the order in hand. They frequently fail to do new installs on time but sods law says the disconnection will be prompt.

Your original post made no mention of the fact that you had already given notice. As above, much too late now to cancel the disconnection process.

  • This is the problem - having everything with one supplier. When you have TV, phone and broadband, they see you as more or less captive to them, and are much less likely to give you a decent deal when your minimum term expires.

I only have Sky for TV, and have been on a half price deal for the last two years. The deal is ending shortly and I rang them last week to cancel. They told me they could only offer me a 25% discount for three months which I refused, and I gave my 31 days notice.

Within three days, I'd had a phone call first offering me 50% for three months, which I refused, and then they offered 50% off for 12 months on a 12 month contract. I'm now getting Movies and Sport plus HD for £35 per month for another year.

I would never contemplate having everything with Sky or any other provider.
