Just downloaded a manual for a random beko DW - it leaves a 90mm 'gap' for service pipes - can your existing waste be lowered a few MM ??

    Russ

Apparently it isn't possible to lower the waste-pipe because that would create a problem for where it goes under the sink and out - something about a dead bit of pipe? I am quoting OH here.

OH is currently eyeing the top of the DW (which is a DSFN1530) and wondering if we can raise the DW up an inch or so under the worktop by standing it on something, as there is a gap there - this would lift it up about an inch and might just clear it.

(He's also eyeing all that nice white extra bit at the top which he says just seems to be a cosmetic 'lid' - but I am hoping it won't come to that.... :-()

Many thanks for all your helpful comments so far.

Most DW's have adjustable feet - you should be able to get it closer to the worktop and increase the gap at the back.
Have you protected the underside of the worktop?

    Re: removing the lid...

"In the unlikely event that the product
will not fit under the worktop a special
part replacing the top trim must be
provided and installed by an Authorized
Service Agent. It should never be
    operated without a top cover"

In what way should it be protected?

Nothing has actually been done yet, we are still assessing the possible alternatives. This sounds like it could be useful information!

If you have a laminate or wooden worktop then the underside should be protected against steam from the dw. Does your new dw come with a roll of silver or clear adhesive tape?

    Let us know

Our worktop is standard B&Q photographed cheapo stuff, so probably covered chipboard or similar? Nothing expensive or 'real'.

I can't find any tape of any description, should that be included?

    Thanks!

Are you fitting new worktops? I had a similar problem so bought 800mm worktop and cut it down to 650mm, 5mm wider than normal and giving room for all pipes at the back.
I also find the extra 5mm between the sink and the tiles useful too

**I have a piece of foil above the DW - never noticed that before - and now I know what it's for, thanks

aims for 2014 - grow more fruit and veg, declutter

Not new worktops, we are trying to fit the DW into our existing kitchen. The pipe problem is at the bottom of the wall, not the top.

Good idea about the foil though - we might need some of that!

Get yourself some of this and stick it to the front underside of the worktop above the dishwasher - it offers protection to the worktop from the heat and steam of the dishwasher.

To be fair there is less of an issue with freestanding DW's than there is with built in when it somes to steam damage, but for the sake of a few quid it could stop heartache at a latter date - bit of a belt and braces excercise :)

HTH - let us know how you get on

Excellent, thank you! I will definitely get some of that protective stuff, as it looks like raising the DW is the way to go.

Many thanks, and I'll let you know how we get on with it.
