I have said to DD she can have money for grades too. Nothing for a C but £50 for B and £100 for an A.

It's had a dramatic effect on her. She handed one coursework in and got an E. I told her the figures and she took it back, redid it and got an A* It's infuriating as she is bright, just isn't one for schoolwork.... Unless she's got a chance of some money it seems .

    People are you for real???

    This is absolutely bonkers!

I must be the tightest !!! on earth. My first borne (now 19) had 10As, 1B and 1A* two years ago, would you really pay her £1050 + A*£200 maybe? We would certainly be very, very poor. LOL She is now managing her finance really well whilst at UNI, cooks healthily and cheaply and still had money left for a cruise!
That is twice as much as what I earn! I am shocked at everyone chucking money at their little darlings. My kids have been telling me that everyone at school is getting lots of money without even doing anything and they are clueless of the money value as spend it on rubbish.
My kids 15,16 get nothing (very mean, but no work no money, tough!) They have a paper round £5 a week, we pay for everything associated with their life, school, PAYG, no contracts no luxeries - and they are very good and inventive in using apps and wifi, so they don't pay any extra for calls. They home make stuff up , take to to school and sell it to these spoiled friends and make a profit, lol, it makes me chuckle- what a life learning lessons -just like Richard Brandson and other entrepreneurs.
I would love to give them some pocket money, but unless they do chores on daily basis they'll get nothing. I do know it is tough for them when they go out with these kids and only have a fiver or so in their pocket and have to compromise in what they can buy. But they don't mind too much they like the social aspect as most of the time they would spend it on rubbish.
Well I can not show them this as they would hold me at ransom .:rotfl::rotfl:

my DD used to say that too. Until I checked and they weren't. Kids will try anything to get more. And don't think we check :rotfl:

DD loves making stuff too. I agree, I think this is a great skill and one to encourage, she home makes a lot of presents. Even for our wedding she helped with decorations etc I hope she continues as she gets older as I think it's a great skill to have.

I agree with the majority of what you say. I do think pocket money is aminefield and is somewhat different to everyone's different situations.

I love to have to give my daughter 1k for her exams and I hope she proves me wrong, but I reckon my money is safe. If she does knuckle down then I don't mind paying her for it, but again everyone's different.
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....

Only saw a few posts but shocking the amounts given, children should NOT have their phone bills paid as it encourages them to just run up bills and ask parents for more, at MOST it should be £10 a week and only if they have to pay things like extra bus fares i.e not ones to School and back or for events

I am aged 30 yet I got £5 a week aged 16, £4 a week aged 15, £3.50 aged 15, £3 aged 13, £2 aged 12 but that was "enough" in the sense I had all my food paid and a bus pass for school.

Children do NOT need to go to every club, do NOT need excessive amounts of new clothes and even when they do need new things they do not need to be the highest priced ones.

When I was growing up I had no safety net and still survive, 1 pair of trousers a year and 1 shirt and jumper from a voucher, missed any large trips away i.e for a week with school(to be fair even then I noticed it was all the richest kids going and none of the poorer ones so the school just wanted to divide us up)

In todays money £10 a week is good enough, it shocks me when I see teenagers with wads of notes and expensive phones talking about how they are "skint" only having like £40 on them to last a week(similar arguments I hear at university from the catered students) yet I have about £15 a week to buy food and pay utilities let alone luxuries.

I remember even aged 16 having like 60p on me for bus fare which was 5 miles away and deciding to treat myself to a bag of lollipops and walking the 5 miles home and it started pouring with rain and I actually liked it, many kids today seem to not want to walk far as its too much effort and they may mess up their make up or hair, I remember some students coming out of halls and it was SPITTING with rain and wanted to go to student pub with was 4 minutes walk away and deciding to get a taxi to not get wet!

Forgot to say that when I got my first college grant aged 16 my parents stopped giving me anything(apart from a odd fiver from my dad to go out with the lads once every few months) and I got £78 a month from college and I felt RICH!!! Seriously going from a few quid a week to £78 a month and not having any bills to pay that was like spending money to me, I remember treating myself to my first ever night out drinking when I spend £15 and felt like I had spent a shocking amount, a few weeks later I decided to get a taxi home costing like £9 quid instead of waiting 2 hours for next bus and it felt like I was living a life of luxury!!

Kids today feel hard done by if they dont have 3g smartphones and the latest clothes and gadgets, I remember laughing when on holiday a few weeks ago hearing 2 young girls no older than 15 talk about how they had no 3G, and that their lives were over as they wanted to speak to their friends on facebook
