proof of living somewhere

Hi all
Backstory : I have been on JSA for 6 years and been on many programmes/courses etc but not got a job. I apply for 5 or 6 a week but neva get anywere.
I applied for help with the rent to pay mum and was not entitled to anything, so I put my name down for a flat in 2012. About a year ago I got a letter offering me a 1 bed flat nearby, so I jumped at it and moved out.
Now my mum is ill (but claims no money for it) and misses me so I spend a lot of time at home with her. She does cooking and does my clothes etc so I am here a lot.
All my bills and doctors etc are too my place, but granted I spend a lot of time at mums. I go home weekends and chill there with mates and spend time there.
A few months ago I got a letter to say they had visited me at my place and got no answer and would I contact them. I ignored it and they sent another.
Eventually I spoke to someone and they said that they had visited my flat 4 times in a month, they said that that as I was not in they dont think I live there. They also said that one time who answered was not me. This was a friend who crashses there sometimes as he does not get on with his dad at home.
they have accused me of renting the flat out which is wrong cos its not true.
How can I stop them and leave me alone, I feel I have to choose when to come look after mum and when to be a home... not fair, help please

The most sensible thing to do would be to give up your flat and move back in with your mum.0

You would prefer to be with your Mum, your Mum would prefer to have you at home, so why are you renting elsewhere? Just to get housing benefit, which goes to pay rent for somewhere you don't want to be. Doesn't even make financial sense. Living at home, you could share the cost of utilities with your Mum and both of you save some money.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages, student & coronavirus Boards, money saving boards. Who is "they"? The landlord or housing benefit?0

not fair, help please
Not fair? That you are keeping a place from someone who really need the place when you are clearly just using it to have your parties during the week-ends whilst you let you ill mum do everything for you during the week.0 -
What's not fair is that the taxpayer is forking out for your party pad while you sit on your backside at your mother's. You should be applying for a lot more than 5 or 6 jobs per week by the way.0

Six years on Job Seeker's Allowance?
Applying for five or six jobs a week?
Are there no pubs in your area? Care homes? Supermarkets?
Or does it just suit you to go to your Mum's and have parties at weekends?"There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -

Actually, having read this again that really doesn't ring true. We all know how long the lists are for social housing. Especially if you already have accommodation. Far more than a year.....0 -

Depends on where you are and also depends on the property. There are parts of the UK where council flats are relatively easy to come by,(especially for single people which are either one beds or bedsits) and even in London there are always hard to let properties which even the most desperate people won't touch.
Having said that, I also think (hope) that this is a wind up.0 -
I would like to think it is a wind up, but the reality is that there are many young people who have been brought to think there is nothing wrong with the situation OP is, and therefore are very happy to adopt it as a lifestyle since they can get away with it.0
