If you take a look at the Halifax help pages it says to close a current account you should do so in branch or write to their account closure team.
See towards the end of this page.

    good advice above.
my only other thought is that, unless you are breaking up, don't do it. a HR account can be easily harvested for £5/month:)
Breaking up isn't the only reason that an account should be closed.

How about if a brother & sister have a joint acc just for the £5 but the brother keeps getting in bother with the law, or more specifically he's seeing a girl who's a bit of a Jeremy Kyle contestant & is now calling the law on him despite the fact that she's the one punching him about & he's the one with a marked face with her having no marks. He has a suspended sentence over his head for 24 months & she knows this & knows that there's a chance he'll be put inside but does it anyway & then lays it on thick in a text afterwards that she'll be oh so alone & all the rest of the nonsense. And when the accounts start getting looked into, the legal lot will want to know about the connection & whether the sister should be paying any fees or whatever.

All hassle the sister could do without.

    No breakup involved :)

Although not relevant to this thread. I opened all 3 of my Lloyd's Vantage online as I did with my three TSB Enhance accounts and my three BoS Vantage accounts.
Good for you & correct, not relevant. I couldn't open a 2nd or a 3rd online which is all that matters to me.
