Decent vacuum cleaner

Hi,

We're looking for any suggestions on a decent but affordable hoover? I just had one from tescos, their own brand but it seems to have lost its touch now. Partner has been looking at some Vax and Miele ones but but they're like £119 and really can't be doing with that lol

Any suggestions please?

I will always recommend a Henry, I bought one and he really sucks!

In a way you'd want a vacuum cleaner to suck; not in the bad way.

The cord is incredibly long, I can hoover upstairs while's he's still plugged in downstairs; he comes with an extra length of hose that means I can do the whole stairs with Henry sitting at the bottom...

Sure he uses bags which puts some people off, but I don't see why, it beats the way I used to have to empty my old bagless one into the dustbin with clouds of dust blowing up into my face!

And he's got a cute smiley face and is less than £100.

Oh and he's made in the UK :0)

Give in to your fiance, they are great!! Don't get what people have against them... they wouldn't be the machine of choice for so many professional cleaners if they were no good! ;-)

I'm not a Henry fan either. My Miele gave up the ghost just before Christmas so I rushed out and bought this Bosch to be going on with.
I'm so impressed that I'm sticking with it!

I have a Dyson and I hate it, the hose is too stiff it makes doing the stairs like a workout with an Anaconda!! I have never had a cylinder cleaner though, always an upright.

    Are they better?

I have a Dyson and a Henry, the Dyson is wonderful on carpets , quicker than the Henry. But for the car/garage the Henry is unbeatable.
The Dyson is easy to take apart and thoroughly clean, a very clever machine.

You can't get a decent new vacuum cleaner for much under £200, so your expectations are out of synch if you think £119 is expensive.
You don't say if you want an upright or a cylinder machine, or what kind of floors you have, but I suggest for an upright that you get a properly refurb'd Dyson DC07 for around £90. That should last you for another 5 years at least with proper maintenance.
Tesco own brands are budget badge jobs designed to last for the warranty period and then expire shortly afterwards-you get what you pay for.

  • We have had a hover upright and now a Bissell cylinder cleaner. It was heavily reduced from £150-£50 in the argos sale. It's very light and does the job well (carpets/hardwood). I haven't had really expensive ones so I couldn't compare but so far I'm happy with it! :T

We are in the same boat. I was thinking about getting a Miele compact at £120 but since we are spending all sorts on renovations at the minute I'm tempted on cheaping out on this...
