Good girl, I listen to Dave's podcast every day if I have time and although the convenient God stuff annoys me sometimes, overall it is the first plan that has made sense to me.

What is the interest rate on your divorce loan v the car?

Much of a muchness on Int rates 7.5 vs 8.4... The Car Loan is just starting next month. I really want to get rid of the Divorce loan first for obvious reasons lol

Yes, the evangelical stuff has to be endured, but in all honesty, we mostly live by "christian" attitudes anyway, so it's not so bad :)

:T well admitted! I think car finance is slightly different to a bank loan taken out - normally on finance it is in effect a hire purchase agreement is it not? You stop paying, they will come along, remove the car, and fail to give you back a penny of what you've paid. That IS rather different, as you won't get the finance any cheaper by paying it off ahead of the due date. what I was thinking of with a "loan" was what I've done in the past - gone to the bank and borrowed money over a set term - 30 or 36 months usually - and then bought the car outright with that money.

Nelly, the points you have on those cards now - do they have any value right now? Could you cash them in for something useful, practical or at least pretty, without having to add any more hard cash to them?

:T:beer: well done on getting the Amazon card cleared - brilliant progress, and very - ahem - decisive, too, may I say! :D

Brilliant aim to be completely DF inside 10 years too! :j

Nah, I am not going to put more money in to cash out, I'd rather see it as a bog standard CC and then just be done with it!

I'm feeling the same way with tesco now...I shop their so I can fill up the points, but do I really need them? (Apart from the petrol stuff) - I need to start being very objective with my money and start questioning why someone wants it so bad lol:rotfl:

I have!! Dave Ramsey has now drilled it into me! :j

I've cut up one of my credit cards which had a zero balance and closed it. I paid off the other one in full and once the payment completes I will close that too! :T

Then I can start to tackle my loans! :j

    Thanks LMGiggles! :T

Can't wait to jump back to MFW once the loans disappear...I figure as long as I have any kind of debt - even if it's "affordable" - I should be over here! :o:rotfl:

I just wish I had listened to Dave Ramsey last month before I bought my car on a loan!!:o

    OK...things are a go!!
    • So the Amazon CC is paid off and just awaiting confirmation to close the account.
    • I've set up a "Payment" from my Bank to my new Account (linked to Loan) so I can do easy overpayments.
    • Now got my Child Benefit into my new Account too.
    • Got all my old cards, points based and old account cards all cut up as a tidy up exercise - amazing how many cards we accumulate!!!
    • Going to create a nice laminated sheet of Dave Ramsey's Baby Steps and a sheet of my goals WITH DATES!! To keep me on track

At the moment, I would love to move out of this house and into a new turnkey townhouse, but I am talking myself into this being my forever home, so that I don't waste money and I can do this up and eventually leave it to my son. But let's see how that pans out! If there is going to be another bubble then I don't want to be caught in it...Might wait for the next crash which by then will mean my house is paid off! :rotfl:

    OK...

    Just checked my bank accounts:

£16.96 was refunded by my dental insurance for the examination last week...hurrah! Normally I would claim on just the standard appts, but this is the new me!!

I transferred £1 from my old bank to new bank yesterday just to make sure that I had set it up correctly...and the transfer is already through...so now I can transfer money across at will - when I get it!

I now have the grand sum of £18 in the new bank...but then I transferred £10.71 (a tenner plus the odds) from my new account to the loan...It came off the balance of the account, but not the loan! Will phone them today to see when it comes off!

Checked with Nationwide and although transfers between Current and Savings are instant, it can take 1-2 days to show up in a loan account...Cheeky blighters keeping 2 days interest from me!!!:mad:
