Update Wed 8 May
Please read our Can you help us make MSE even better? (We'll pay you £50…) news story for updated information.
Hi everyone
We’re looking at a number of improvements to MoneySavingExpert at the moment, including making it mobile accessible, improving navigation and more. As such we want some MoneySaver volunteers who will come and take part in some focus groups so we can ask some questions and understand how you use MSE and any suggestions you have for improvement.
For this piece of work we’re looking for 12 volunteers to join us in London on Friday 9 May. If you volunteer we’ll send you a brief survey to help us pick a more representative group to come in person. However, even if you’re not then invited to join us this time round we’d like to keep your details in case we need further help in the future.
Please only apply if you meet the following criterion:
• You’ve used the MoneySavingExpert.com site at least once in the last 6 months.
• You own a smartphone and use it to access the internet
• Preferably live in the Greater London area for the first round of research.
• You’re available to help us with our research taking around 2 hours, on Friday 9 May.
• You’re comfortable being videoed.
How to volunteer
In the first instance please email feedbackvolunteers@moneysavingexpert.com.
Volunteer confirmation
You’ll then be sent a questionnaire to complete, which will ask for various pieces of info including your contact number. For selected MoneySavers who complete the questionnaire we will contact you early next week to confirm the time on 9 May to attend.
Travel Expenses
The 12 MoneySavers joining us on 9 May will receive £50 to cover travel expenses.

It's a bit selective
Yes, you'd think they'd use a forum for something like that.
Perhaps with a 'Site Feedback' board?
And maybe ask people there what they wanted from the site?
What?
They did that already?
What happened?
Oh!

I don't think £50 travel expenses is going to allow people from further than the home counties to participate!
Surely the main criterion is to Allow the User Interface to be User-Customisable, not force a single view down people's throats. We had the latter with the "horizontal space will be a certain number of pixels wide, and you can like it or lump it" (as Mandelbrot implies above, I think...).
And once all the discussions are had, then a commercial Usability Lab should test the results out.0 -
It's a bit rude to specify "London only"0

Which research agency are conducting the focus group?0

Would it not be easier to do it online through a Skype type service to get a more representative group of users?Hi there! We’ve had to remove your signature. It was so good we removed it because we cannot think of one so good as you had and need to protect others from seeing such a great signature.0

Gosh some people are never happy but this may have missed your grubby little eyes on the £50 you so badly wantPreferably live in the Greater London area for the first round of research."If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0

It doesn't actually say that - "preferably" London is a bit different.
But if it is London and is for 2 hours it isn't really worth someone travelling from Newcastle for a 2 hr event.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -
Just checked and I could still get a return journey's Advance rail tickets (from Hereford to Paddington - not sure where MSE Towers is) for £31.70 with my senior railcard. Don't think I'll volunteer though, and anyway I expect they've got their quota by now.
I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe
