So there are local elections coming up, and I've had one leaflet from UKIP (telling me about those pesky human rights and how they'll get rid of the association with ECHR), one leaflet from Labour (facts, figures, and their plans for the local area), and one from the Conservatives and the Lib Dems.
And then there's the Green Party.
Every other week they're pushing a newsletter through the door with no particularly important information on it. That's a lot of wasted paper for a "green" party.
Then there's the "vote for us" leaflets, every week at the moment.
And then tonight? Just before 7pm, ringing the doorbells of every house in the street. A new build street where all houses were allocated to families with at least one child under 5. I'm the second house on the street. My next door neighbour had already explained that they should probably avoid door knocking at this time.
So they rang my bell. And I said the same.
And then they rang next door the other side, who was slightly less polite as they had ignored the "no cold callers sign". And on and on he's going, with everybody telling him the same thing. He's still going now.
I heard the woman 2 doors down say "that's a shame, I had been thinking of voting for you until you ignored all of the neighbours. Trot off now"
As I say, he's still going. No positive reaction yet.
Also, considering the shambles in Brighton, I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole anyway!
They've definitely driven away any voters that may have been considering them around here.

I have a child under 5 and would welcome any one of the political parties (except UKIP) knocking my door at any time. As ive not a clue who to vote for any candidate showing some interest in us will earn big brownie points! I've been voting for 18 years and nobody has ever knocked my door!Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -

During the day is fine, but during dinner, bath and bedtime? Not so much for me. I have a 2 and 3 year old and quite frankly my hands are full enough at that time of night.
The guy has just ignored everyone saying the same thing about calling back at a reasonable time and as such has peed everyone off.
Last year we had labour canvassers around in the afternoons, ditto UKIP. It's entirely do-able, I see no reason why they would ignore everyone on the street when they were being told that they'd be disturbing people by every house they visited
Oh, and ETA, I have a no cold callers sign up too, which was ignored.0 -

We don't do bedtime till 8-9pm (later in the hols) so it's no issue. It doesn't need all of us anyway.
Don't any of you work? How come you're all home of an afternoon?Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -
Didn't you have issues with the post man delivering in the evening as well? Perhaps it is you that has the issue, expecting others to know 'all houses were allocated to families with at least one child under 5' and work around your bedtimes?0

Most of the people around here don't work, no.
I'm home in the day as my husband works and I stay at home with the kids...0 -

My bad, clearly all of us with "no cold callers" signs up should expect to be disturbed, and all my neighbours who say "don't knock on next door/numbers x, y & z" should be ignored.0 -

But they didn't know that before they arrived in the evening!0

I'm sure there'll be somebody along to confirm, but aren't political canvassers exempt from those signs: something to do with the political process...? Now judging by this I reckon your heart is in the right place

I've never canvassed, sensitive soul that I am, but if you are employed too, the evenings is the only timeyou can do such work.
If a UKIP canvasser comes to my door I shall engage them in conversation: I'd love to know what some of their other policies are!0
