I'm 40 and knit. I learnt to knit at 22 and have done so ever since. DH made a few "miss marple" comments, but he is forever putting in requests for me to make him things!

I knit, crochet, spin & weave, and whilst I'm mid-50s, my two daughters, aged 18 & 21, do too, with great enthusiasm & talent! They wear the results with panache & flair and get lots of compliments; one sells some of her work, and also does some outwork for Bond Street knitwear & felt designers. There are knitting groups meeting in some of the poshest & hippest cafes, and some amazing & brilliant yarns out there to play with, not to mention some great exhibitions etc. - I've just come back from two fantastic days at Wonderwool Wales, there are shows at Olympia, there's Unravel in Farnham - businesses don't throw money at a hobby that's only indulged in by a few old ladies!

So tell your boyfriend to be careful people don't think he's out of the Ark - knitting is "well cool" now.

Of course loads of people do. I have my crochet on the go at present. Get yourself over to Ravelry and have a browse around. Then you can educate your partner.

Yes I knit, I'm 38 but I've been knitting since I was about 12/13. I've done toys, scarves, hats, and I'll start knitting for my baby fairly soon.

I find the click of the needles relaxing, and there's loads of different ways to knit other than with stocking stitch with 2 needles. I tried knitting in the round recently and that kept me on my toes-nothing boring about that I can tell you!

There's a great series of books called "Stitch & !!!!!"-I used a crochet one, and they're not fuddy duddy at all. They're designed for the young, modern knitter.

Next time the OH tells you it's for old women, tell him about Yarn Bombing. It's where people decorate random public property (with permission) with knitted items. My town has all the shop door handles and lamp-posts covered with knitted flowers and knitted sleeves for it's arts festival. It really brightens the street up.

Knitting seems to have become more popular recently-more wool shops opening and groups springing up. DD goes to a "Stitch & !!!!!" group at work.

    I've knitted six poppies today-

Knitting is very popular, stars do it - Julia Roberts for one) and I do it for hours to keep me sane whilst I look after hubby. Am secretly making stuff for a prospective grandchild or 2 which may be born late next year. I crochet too and make blankets for several charities such as SIBOL. I have made loads of wonderful friends all over the world though my yarn makings. My DGs has had lots of homemade cute stuff over the last 4 years and his Mummy loves it! :D
