Does anyone still knit?

I'm just wondering if anyone here still knits. I am thinking of taking it up again, nothing complicated, just basic tops for myself, scarves, baby blankets and things like that, maybe also doing things for charity. I've been feeling quite enthusiastic about it until my boyfriend commented that its a hobby for old ladies and that no one knits anymore, I am 52. Now he's put me right off. I thought it was coming back in.

Yes they do, I don't personally, its just one of those things that I can not do. There is a thread on here regarding knitting, its called something along the lines of 'knit a square....'

I've seen recently in garden centres a scarf which can be knitted from a ball of wool. But its really fancy special wool which makes a sort of knotted twisted style rather than a Dr Who type thing :D

Edited to add, I've found another thread called The Knitters Thread, its on page two and is 407 pages long, so no, noone knits anymore :D;)

No one knits any more? Rubbish!

I've just had to put down my crochet to answer this; I knit and crochet and have done both since I was a teenager.

I'm now 48 and have lots of friends who knit and crochet; in the winter we get together during the day and have coffee, cake and a knitting or crochet session while we're chatting, and in the summer do the same in the evening (but often with wine rather than coffee)!

Both knitting and crochet are great for relaxing and releasing tension, as well as letting your creativity flow. Take no notice of your boyfriend and get to it!

It is something I learnt to do as a child and still do.

Was just going to mention Ravelry, it's not all old fogeys either.Knitting is very 'with it'.

I knit and I'm 40. There's a lot of patterns out there and some great knitting magazines. I'm currently trying to decide what to knit during the footie World Cup. For the European cup two years ago I knitted a bunny in a dress complete with Moses basket, mattress, blanket and frilly pillow. Lovely pattern off etsy which only cost a couple of pounds and used up lot of my stash.

my lovely nan used to love knitting and she was good at it.

But like someone said above me, it's actually kind of 'with it' at the moment.
I'm only in my late 20's and some of the girls I know who are younger than me and who would certainly be thought of as modern, seem to have taken up things like knitting in recent times (according to their facebook updates!)
    I guess it's kind of retro/cool again! (?)

    go for it, i say
