    YAY!!!!

Hi Ed (and the rest of you). I haven't been round much as life has been beyond manic (and most of the people I know seem to think that my life is manic at the best of times, so that is really saying something) but I am DEEEEEEEEEE-LIGHTED to hear this.

Thanks for the early Christmas present! :D :T

I'm on holiday as of tomorrow *looks at clock* erm, today, so I'll try to catch up a bit once the flying and going to a different country bit is out of the way.

Well done, Ed. And Mrs Ed. That is literally the best news I could have possibly heard today! :D

Well, to continue in a similar vein, it's a :female:

    :T

We're hosting a pre-Christmas party for some of my siblings today, really looking forward to seeing everyone. I hope we've got enough food and drink (currently at 5 HM dips and rising!) :rotfl:

Other than that, the house is looking lovely, we've got our last present ready to wrap and British G@s are going to install free loft insulation for us in the new year. Should save us £300+ a year, we currently have *no* loft insulation
    • Our end of year salaries have turned up already, so I've been able to save and invest c. £700.
    • About £100 worth of MB offers this weekend
    • £10 to Freedom Fund, £3 to Emergency Fund
    • Took the cat to the vet
    • Took out all the rubbish and recycling, hoovered and set up the living room for today
    • Fridge is groaning with party food

Two days left of work next week, including a heinous looking end of year review. I'm going to praise myself to the heavens, see if I can capitalise on my new found work recognition ;)

Oh, a pink baby, how lovely :T:T:T.

    Hi Ed!

Finally caught up with the whole of your thread in between running about today.

Congrats! You were right dreaming about a girl :)

I love the new thread and the FI outlook. It's definitely something I'm thinking about, since I'm graduating next year ( ) I want to understand pensions and things so that I can start that asap.
My other half's workplace is terrible and he's just been there until I get through uni really. Their pension contributions have been mysteriously disappearing and it's just a shambles. He thinks it's fine 'cause he's only 28 but I worry. And then my new job is over an hour commute from where we live. But to sell this place we would have to spend a lot to get it done up...

    Argh! Sorry!

Point of post was to say I love the new thread, and if it wasn't for you I would never have started S&S ISA (which is now plodding away happily, £650 so far) and now will have to look at matched betting ;)

I'm glad everything's working out better for you, and looking forward to hearing all about it :)

ETA: Also, how did you get on with VBA?

Don't worry Cal, it's fine to talk about yourself a bit and we haven't heard from you in *ages* :)

Have you ever read any of the acerbic comments on MMM about 'car clowns'? An hour sounds like a heck of a commute! I think there's a counter argument to be made that a commute isn't the worst thing in the world if it allows you to lock in a very low cost of living at your home base, which you have done. Aside from the work on your home, your mortgage is tiny (ours is double that + a wee bit more and we only have a 2 bed flat)!

You already invest passively in index tracking products, so have made a great start. Just apply the same thought to your pension, save a bit more and you'll have won before you know it. How about adding xx% on to your existing payments for the new tax year? Seriously, your mortgage will melt when you're in full-time employment!

My priorities are changing at the moment, but the FI goal is still being held in mind :T
    • Party was great fun
    • Relaxing today, just some grocery shopping
    • £10 to S&S ISA
    • £3 to Emergency Fund
    • Lots of MB action today

Ps. I'll get back to the VBA, slight pause in studies :o

I daren't say mine is at least 1hr 45 each way  - but only 2 days a week and I'd have to sell my 4 bed detached house and buy a 1 bed cluster home if I was to live nearby . I just need to retire so early that if you worked out my average commute time till the age of 67 it be nice and low :).

I didn't quite see the pink - thanks for the comment. And how lovely, ed and Mrs ed, very cute :)

Thats an excellent point! MMM is a bit black and white, and our housing market is so distorted by various things, you've got to take that into account.

I'm constantly reminded of my brother's youngest son when you write of that, before his wife had their baby he was slogging really hard to get as many as possible of the professional exams out of the way - and he said, once the baby was born, he wanted to be out of the office at 5pm sharp, just to spend as long with the baby as he could. It was lovely to hear him. Lovely to read what you write too :)
