Agree with your strategy Ed - simple is often best :T. I'd be inclined for now to keep the whisky that you're predicting a loss on though - it's not taking up a lot of room. Definitely ditch the homebrew though, life's too short

We're talking £20 vs. hopefully £70 profit on the dearer ones, will balance out. Recovered bottom half of airing cupboard! 😀0

Per bottle? Thats very good2023: the year I get to buy a car0

They are mostly very limited bottlings, or £150+ bottles bought at 30%+ discounts to RRP, keeping my fingers crossed.
Also pleased to see that solar power has started creeping back up and there will be a £105+ cheque coming my way in 2 weeks0 -

Early 80s? You're about my age from memory.
Yes, early '80s.
Could still live without the electronic gadgets now, to be honest.edinburgher wrote: »I am selling 8 bottles of whisky at auction. A couple of them will probably see me losing money, but luckily some of the more collectable bottles have recently won awards, which won't hurt the price. All part of efforts to simplify and declutter, fingers crossed for good prices
What will I do with the money? Probably something boring like pay some into my pension. Amusingly enough, one of the bottles is the 'retirement bottle' from the year of my birth. I figured that I'd be far better off getting a free top up from the government and 22 years of compound returns than holding on to the whisky
Thanks again to SSS for helping me find my investing self again, definitely getting back to basics in the Mr E household. Leverage, P2P and whisky are out, mend and make do, index investing and tax breaks are in.
I am also giving thought to abandoning homebrew. Haven't had time to make any in about a year, can't really spare the space and CBA if I'm honest. It might not be the best beer in the world, but Mr M etc. often have deals that can net you a bottle of beer for 50p if you buy in bulk. I have been guilty of falling into a trap where I can't get over the sunk value of all the bottles etc. Maybe I'll give it one last try with my remaining kit and see how I feel?
I'd just sell the ones you'll make a profit on and drink the rest. Win, win.
I presume you're in for the long term with the index investing? Every so often I think about doing something sensible with my savings or spare money but can't resist buying cars ...
The local towns around here all have shops dedicated to selling nice beer from small (and sometimes not so small) breweries. Ditch the home brew and found out if there are any such shops close-by.2018 totals:

I feel the same about hb. I just dont have the patience!
But if you have one kit left..maybe worth a parting shot?15/5/12 Paid off Mortgage 1 (£220k) Bought Dream House:www: Dec 13 - Mortage 2 -£116,508. 15/7/18 Mortgage Free Again :j

I don't seem to drink any more so the glass demijohns I have are currently a bit wasted
but they *do* sit in the understairs cupboard space that isn't wanted for anything else, so I'll keep them for now

Well done on solar ££££'s Ed, there certainly wasn't any generated when I was in Scotland :rotfl:.A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

That's a good point, Gally
Erm ... erm .... they're such good quality, being glass and all, I'm about to retire and I might well want to do some sort of project with them next year, even if its not alcoholic.
I agree with your reasoningbut I'm going to give myself another year or so before I ditch them. Shoot me now :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
