    In fairness, there were no electronic gadgets when you were 4-5 ;)

    Early 80s? You're about my age from memory.

    Apparently it's my 8 year anniversary on MSE today. Might be time to retire :)

    :eek::eek::eek:

    Who will you celebrate all those little overpayments, if not us :eek:

    I was just thinking of you this afternoon, Ed - I've finally got my mitts on the site of the photographers for that wedding I went to in May - a surprising number of tartan *trousers* in evidence, as well as kilts - is that a thing? It was a thing there, anyway :)

    Tartan trousers are more of a Christmas night out thing in Glasgow, but not unheard of, relatively popular with women as well.
  • Happy Anniversary! Well done on all you have achieved.xx
    Paid off mortgage nine years early in 2013. Now picking and choosing our work to fit in with the rest of our lives!
    Still thrifty though, after all these years:D

    I remember reading David Niven's autobiography, he'd asked to go into a kilted regiment but got put in tartan trousers instead :D.
    A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

    I am selling 8 bottles of whisky at auction. A couple of them will probably see me losing money, but luckily some of the more collectable bottles have recently won awards, which won't hurt the price. All part of efforts to simplify and declutter, fingers crossed for good prices :)

    What will I do with the money? Probably something boring like pay some into my pension. Amusingly enough, one of the bottles is the 'retirement bottle' from the year of my birth. I figured that I'd be far better off getting a free top up from the government and 22 years of compound returns than holding on to the whisky ;)

    Thanks again to SSS for helping me find my investing self again, definitely getting back to basics in the Mr E household. Leverage, P2P and whisky are out, mend and make do, index investing and tax breaks are in.

    I am also giving thought to abandoning homebrew. Haven't had time to make any in about a year, can't really spare the space and CBA if I'm honest. It might not be the best beer in the world, but Mr M etc. often have deals that can net you a bottle of beer for 50p if you buy in bulk. I have been guilty of falling into a trap where I can't get over the sunk value of all the bottles etc. Maybe I'll give it one last try with my remaining kit and see how I feel?

    Happy anniversary and well done on all you have achieved in such a short space of time. You should be very proud of yourself. Good luck with the whisky auction. We have a bottle of port that was bough as a christening present for DS3 - wonder how much it is worth as he is now 19!

    Oh, that took me back! I confess, when I worked in the City with an export finance firm, I was sent abroad at one stage to Portugal (I've long wondered if it was some kind of make or break thing, or even a tax loss experiment by management) - and I was in a bit of a car crash on company time, as a passenger. Cue a very smart bottle of port in my hotel room one night. Bearing in mind this was 1981, the port was from 1937 :eek::eek::eek: I kept it until my niece was born in 1984, and toasted her at 2 in the morning with the friends and rellies staying with me :rotfl:
