They're certainly very popular Alex, but a little on the dear side! I'm a wee bit attached to Windows if I'm honest (side effect of working in IT?)

Not the development side of things, that seems to have firmly switched to the Mac side. ;) (Unless one is programming for Windows, of course, like my DH. And even he has a Mac for all his other stuff. :p)
£102.32 added to Emergency Fund, which takes me past my target of £500, must have been a bit too easy! New target is £1,000 by the end of the year (currently at 53.90% of target).

*Edit: another £2.28 added, now at 54.13% of target.

    Nice! :)

We work for local gummint, so they're pretty much stuck in the past, although we are moving to a lot more Appl3 products for mobile working etc.

My main concern about getting an iPad was the price (also thought it expensive) but I can honestly say it's been worth every penny. Even use the camera quite a lot ... don't tell Goldie, though. ;) I bought mine with the keyboard and "pencil", use both devices but not sure whether they are really worth an extra £210.

From what I read Windows is good for those that know their way around a computer. Presumably you do working in IT so Windows may be the right choice. The Apple devices seem to work really well together through icloud, everything I want on the iPad is on the phone too. Personally I think it's amazing but I'm sure someone will be along to tell me it's not. :o

Not at all Alex - they didn't get to be one of the biggest companies in the world by selling crap products - they got really good at selling fashionable items that just work :)

A bit outside of my price range though! My days of expensive tech are behind me, the laptop that I'm typing on cost £1,200 before we bought it in a sale at £750  My budget nowadays would be 1/3 of that, a computer is just a window onto the wider world.

Spent £12.99 buying DD 10 books from The W0rks. She has just got to the cute age will she will actually let you read her a story and she will rush over to her pile of books, pick one out and when you say 'would you like me to read you a story?' she says 'yees' in an adorable little voice. Mrs E at a hen do, we're enjoying daddy daughter day #2 :)

They do indeed "just work". :)

Do you not think there's a case for "buy cheap buy twice" with tech? Absolutely agree re. computers being a window onto the wider world. :) Amazing really to think about the pre-internet world, it does make me wonder how my son will interact with technology as he gets older. He can't comprehend having no ebay and travelling the country going to spares shows every month or so to get bits for your car. Also doesn't believe me that autotrader used to be a magazine. :rotfl:

I think that tech is the rare exception. Modern manufacturing has come so far and there are so few moving parts in computers that a failure before 5 years or so is unusual, even with cheap kit. The biggest risk is just software/applications moving on so fast that tech can become obsolete. Think modems!
