Thank you Westie, it is nice to hear from people who are dropping in to point out that the 'alternative' to work 'til 65/buy crap to cheer yourself up along the way works and has brought them happiness :)

Your path to freedom sounds like it was very well planned and I agree, the 'sacrifices' are worth it (and often turn out not to have been sacrifices at all) :T

Do you mind if I ask what you work at seasonally?

Yesterday ended up being a reasonably spendy day, but a relaxed bank holiday with my beautiful wife is always worth that. I'll just need to frugal myself up for the next week or two.

KitchenAid is now up to £56, deleted a few pots from the budget yesterday which has brought up our average savings by about £6/day for the rest of the month. Already getting excited about next Friday's update - good sign?

Making a SC Italian bread soup today, om nom nom.

    hi ed,

Of course I don't mind you asking.....we both work seasonally at a Yacht Marina. It suits both parties really.....they only have to employ us during their busy period, and we get the security of a regular income, but without being committed to year round working! We're just a couple of old beach bums really :j :j

Many might say that we are lazy and lack ambition, because we have never been career driven, but I look around me at all the so-called 'high flyers' and they all look miserable.....racing around at the weekend, throwing money at things to make them feel better! It's just not for me, and thankfully my hubby is of the same mindset.

This may sound a bit cheesy, but we just genuinely enjoy each others company.....we want to spend our time together happily, and not feel constantly stressed out by the craziness of the workplace! So plan your road to freedom, and enjoy!

All the best ed....good luck with your journey :)

 Ed that's so nosy

    Saved me from asking :T.

Great to hear it's worked for you Westie. Really, why would anyone want the alternative? We are Oping so that we can so we can pay off our btl's. Working out at £58 a day - so every £58 I spend on the house is a day longer to work . Sort of focuses the mind really .

Looking forward to next Friday along with you Ed :D.

ha ha gallygirl....he's a nosy wee so and so ;)

Actually gally, I had a wee look at your thread last night also....a great read (putting us to shame on all the btl's!) Lots of inspiring stuff in there.....I'm always looking for new ideas and info.

It's pretty much an ongoing thing for us......need to ensure that we can continue with this lifestyle....don't want to reach retirement age (my hubby is a few years younger than me), and find that we've messed up!

    focus, focus, focus......:rotfl:

    beach, beach, beach.......

Wow, I'm feeling very inspired by all this talk of early retirement/part-time work!

Nice to see you back and so positive.

Life has a way of trying to knock people down, but what doesn't kill you (bit strong but...) makes you stronger.

Life is struggle and there will always be things that get in the way. It seems to make you more determined.

Loving the thread, (even though most of it will be over my head) - I wish you the very best of luck and I look forward to following your journey.

I have no idea where this idea has come from that this is a highfalutin thread full of confusion and mystery :rotfl:

KitchenAid is now at £90+, people seem to like it. Planning on scouring the cupboards for eBay tonight, I think I have 10-20 DVDs/CDs that can be flogged.

Waiting for various bookies to return matched betting winnings, I'm down to my last fiver in the MB account! Not overly worried, c. £700 sitting in bookies/exchanges to come my way. Started a new sign up bonus/new customer offer last night, which should pay £20 or so. On the negative side, one of my favourite weekly offers has been cut, I'll miss my free £3 ;)

14 DVDs listed between Am@zon and eB@y (only one 'collectible' on Am@azon, their costs are dreadful!) All were listed with BIN prices, should get c. £140 if they all sell (minus fees, postage etc.) Still, a good chunk of change. Ashamed to say that 3-4 of them were still in the shrink wrap :o

Will look for CDs tomorrow, think I could probably scare up 10 or so from the cupboard of mystery...

Matched bet materialised, that should be £25 or so profit assuming Man U don't lose to Hull in the next hour
