What's the definition of a millennial?
Special little snowflake.
Born between 1982 and 1994 this generation is something special, cause Mom and Dad and their 5th grade teacher Mrs. Winotsky told them so. Plus they have a whole shelf of participation trophies sitting at home so it has to be true.
They believe themselves to be highly intelligent, the teachers and lecturers constantly gave them "A"'s in order to keep Mom and Dad from complaining to the Dean. Unfortunately, nobody explained to them the difference between and education and grade inflation so they tend to demonstrate poor spelling and even poorer grammar.
At work, millennials believe themselves to be overachievers who just aren't understood by their loser bosses. Even Mom said so when she showed up for the interview. They are the only generation in the universe to understand the concept of work life balance and to actually want to find a fulfilling career. All those Gen X losers just don't get it what with hoping to keep their jobs and pay the bills but they are just corporate drone so who cares what they think? They should be smart like Millennials and get Mom and Dad to pay for that stuff until they can work out what they want to do with their lives and then get rich doing it.
Well, I've been here at this job for 6 months now and I've been on time mostly so I should get a raise now 'cause I've paid my dues.
Did you know we are the most technologically advanced generation, like eva? And smart too. They call us millennials cause we were born before the millennial I think.
Had to google it

Does that mean all other generations are just cynical gits?!
If so, I'm a Millenial. Except my spelling and punctuation are absolutely on fleek.Debt: £11,640.02 paid in full! DFD: 30/06/20

In a former life as an academic I worked in the field of gerontology a bit, the socio-cultural aspects of ageing & cognitive differences between generations really are fascinating <bores Ed's readers to bits>

However the fact that I didn't know what 'tldr' meant reminds me I've become one of those who studies youth from the outside
I'm deffo Gen X, which I have to say I prefer to Millennials. More David Bowie than Robbie Williams (even though the latter's my age...)
Hope the teething stress is easing a bit Ed
Life is changing...but I'm still Money Saving!0 -
Hmm based on that definition I'm most definitely not a millennial. I never got participation trophies. In fact I never got any trophies cos I was rubbish at sports. I did get As all the time but that was because my SPG was always absolutely spot on and I knew the difference between there, their and they're in primary school. Also, Mum and Dad couldn't pay for anything of mine cos they could just about manage to pay for their own stuff.
I agree with you Roaring Twenties less Robbie Williams, although it's Queen for me not David Bowie. I think I knew the words to Bohemian Rhapsody before I knew the difference between the 3 theres. :rotfl:0 -
Oof - what a nasty definition of millennials - someone was having a grump when they wrote that! Anyway, aren't the generation Xers typically the parents of generation Y? :eek:0

Hmmmmm I don't know, that description pretty accurately describes some particularly special people I have employed in the past.
The sense of entitlement not coupled with a hard work ethic is particularly grating.
(*clearly there are non special snowflakes who buck this trend)0 -
I'm sticking up for generation Y with a counter example, but my basic point is that *every generation is basically the same*!
It's a very personal experience and so highly subjective, but I have found the generation Xers to be just as bad. I work in a setting that's like the civil service, but not quite as pronounced. I am surrounded by highly unionised generation Xers who sit around boasting how hard working they are and are basically on work to rule. They rile against every supposed imposition to their T&Cs, even the ones that would probably be a net positive, on balance. They refuse to adopt any approach other than the one they think will work and they hold grudges for (in some cases) decades.
They have better work life balance, better pensions and jobs that are basically theirs for life. But yet every time someone from generation Y tries to improve their work life balance or prospects, they are mocked as soft or overly ambitious.
Generation Y is basically generation X before it became so tired or used to the struggle that it got used to giving up on all the cliched striving for personal liberty that they now deride in generation Y. I think generation Y has it right. That's the reason that generation Y is perceived as having 'no work ethic' and their heroes are entrepreneurs and .com billionaires - not working less hard, but working smarter and faster to reach goals.
This board is a triumph of millennial thinking, even those of you who aren't millennials
Kudos to all of you who are young at heart, or teaching your children that you can have it all without being a 'special snowflake'

Have been poorly for a couple of days - cue epic weigh in this morning! I have lost 1.5 stones and am now lighter than I have been in the 8-9 years since I met Mrs E :j
I have celebrated with a small OP from my pocket money.- Pay day yesterday
- Money shuffled
- £156.20 paid to DD's S&S ISA (she has reached ££££ already!)
- £4.52 OPed
- £6.04 made from a MB and added to the monthly pot (soon to be renamed)
- Linked SIPPs for Mrs E and I so that we can see each other's balance, helpful tool for family finance planning
Off for a long walk in the glorious sunshine today - happy holidays all! :easter_ba0
