Ed, it all gets better after the first year, in my opinion. :)

Definitely go and have a look at a few different houses, it doesn't harm to see what you can get for your budget. We realised that we really couldn't have bought more house for the budget we had by looking at other properties, you may find otherwise, though. :)

I had a very busy week finishing up training, trying to catch up after my days out of the office and being expected to instantly apply the training to a project that was only loosely related!

It ended on a high and I managed to get most of my housework out of the way on Friday evening, which allowed for a lovely, relaxed weekend. I also had a spot of luck on Friday and won £261 on a risk free slots offer :j

As always, some went to Mrs E (she never paid a penny for meals out, wine and treats this weekend) and DD, who is apparently my lucky charm :rotfl:

Other than that? A bit of a foody weekend, with HM chocolate and peanut butter brownies, kale pesto and a full roast dinner tonight with a brined lemon and herb roast chicken, roasties cooked in dripping, kale and HM gravy

Plenty of time to talk and I feel that we might be pulling in slightly different directions at present. I feel that some of the houses we considered would have been 'settling' (we never saw any in the end, lightning fast sales), but Mrs E is finding it fairly hard work hauling DD up and down stairs. I have tried to point out that changes to behaviours (i.e. lift her, not her + chair) will make the job easier, but not particularly well received. Surely 'lots of stairs' is not the best reason to move home? :o

In any case, I'm maybe being a pessimist, there is every chance that we can afford something reasonable come March (remortgage time, seems a natural break to reconsider things). I just don't want to move for the wrong reasons, it feels like we bought our current flat just to be 'done' viewing places.

Good amounts of money saved, but a few spendy treats (and I bought myself a computer game, how unusual!)

Hope everyone is keeping well, enjoy what's left of the weekend :)

    Hi Ed.

To me, moving home is a really big thing, and if we ever do move, it would really have to be something special.

We've been so happy here, I couldn't move just anywhere.

I think you are right not to want to 'settle' for any old house, but I hear what Mrs E is saying - during the week we saw an apartment on line which ticked a lot of boxes.... but lots of stairs was a negative. I didn't fancy lugging my shopping up to the second floor, and a baby and a pushchair is far heavier!:rotfl:

I really recommend using half quantities, even this makes 10 ridiculously large brownies!

Well, we probably should have thought about that a year ago! ;) :rotfl:

I kid. Sure we'll make the right decision when it comes, it just doesn't feel like it's here yet, IYSWIM.

I do indeed, I said on my thread that I go with gut feeling to make the big decisions, and my gut tells me it's not yet time for us to move.

Well done on the risk free slots offer, I presume being risk free you spent nothing but won £261? Link, please? :)

Do you have a recipe for the brownies? My son would love those. :)

Do you think it would be too much trouble to move now and then move again in a couple of years? Or, are you looking for a 'forever house'?

I can see both yours and your wife's point of view. Personally, I can't see it being easy having a baby and living in a flat but also can't really see the hardship of carrying the baby up the stairs. Not sure if your wife is obsessed with losing the baby weight (mine was) but perhaps spin the carrying baby plus pram up the stairs as a good keep fit exercise? Cheaper than the gym. :D Alternatively, could you leave the pram at the entrance downstairs so it's ready to go but no carrying?

    Ed I think you should
    * make soothing noises about the stairs and NOT suggest solutions
    * keep looking at houses and if you don't think they're it then find a child/family related reason why.

Just describing them as "settling" will make Mrs E think you don't really want to move.
