direct credits into building society accounts

not including current accounts or e-saver accounts does anyone know whether building society branch based accounts eg stroud and swindon branch based accounts have the ability to receive direct credits from a bank

A lot of them do - I don't know about the one you specify
It's not actually direct. They get creditted to a central account held by the BS and then transferred ?manually? to your account. It often takes a day or two longer than a normal bank transfer.
Normal procedure is you quote the sort code and account number of the BS central account and then YOUR account number in the reference field.0
