Sheep spend most of their time outdoors in all weathers so treat your fleece the same. Yes you can put it in the washing machine if it fits. Comfort is good. If it has dried out on the line then the the skin will go dry just like ours it dries out in the sun. Any hand cream with lanolin rubbed into the hide will make it soft again.

Comb out with any wide toothed comb (like and AFRO Comb) or brush(althoug a brush will pull out hairs). It will come out like new.

Sometimes if you just sprinkle with baby powder and then hang on washing line and comb out it will clean it and smell like new! (something to do with babypowder taking up the grease and dirt)

Can the same be done for a sheep skin coat?

It is wooly on the inside but like suede (but made of sheepskin) on the outside.

My daughter's cat peed on her gorgeous fleece rug. It is about 4' X 3'.
What should I do? Will the washing described above handle it ir should I add somethin g specifically for the cat odor?

I would start by blotting and blotting and blotting (magic sponges are the best!) then spraying with clean water and blotting and blotting and blotting some more, and while you ponder whether and how to wash get the Febreze on it! But I take no responsibility for this advice ...
