It all seems utterly far too complicated to be a seller now.0

On a brighter note - Ebay today showed where my two low stars came from in my defect report.
Happy days - the end of annonymous low stars is near.
Not sure if i should be able to see them yet - it doesn't come in till August

Don't make the mistake of "reaching out" to your buyer to ask why they awarded low stars. The CS rep in Dublin told me to do this, but apparently it's still not allowed. You're only young once, but you can be immature forever

The temptation though.
I got 2 low stars on my private account last year and after a lot of work and running reports identified the buyer, and was quite shocked as they had been really nice and left glowing feedback. Obviously I blocked them but I was so tempted to drop them a discreet email via their email address, not via eBay, asking what they thought they were doing as those low stars on a very light selling account could really hurt me, I even fantasised about warning them that I would share their user name with other sellers in the same field . I didn't but it was a nice fantasy for a while.
The conspiracy theory among some sellers is that they are identifying low stars left by other sellers, this is something I have wondered about myself. A couple of times when I have had issues I believe they have been left by people buying and selling on the same account- and where that account shows poor stars . There is an element of revenge in all of us, only this week I've picked up a low star again in my private account and for one moment when leaving feedback for other sellers when not entirely happy about a transaction was tempted to drop a star rather than go 5 across the board. I didn't , but there was that thing in my mind that if other sellers were really dinging my stars why should I leave 5* for everyone automatically.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I won't - but i will be reaching out to live chat. Both buyers wanted changes to address or delivery time and i said no.
I have live chat transcripts showing ebay staff saying ask the buyer to reconsider their low stars.0 -

Live chat are quite good at removing stuff if you can give some indication they were malicious. In my case there as been supporting evidence in messages from the buyers demanding this, demanding that. Live chat can see all this. Of course, if no indication is given by the buyer - its harder. But you can report if you think its a competitor.
Here is live chats explanation as to why buyers leave glowing positive feedback with low stars:-
"Do note that an occasional positive feedback from a buyer with three or four low DSRs is often due to the buyer’s fear of conflict or retaliation, or a misguided attempt to protect the seller’s reputation with other potential buyers, while actually providing eBay and the seller with a better reflection of their experience in the transaction"
So your buyer was either scared of you - or doing you a favour :rotfl::rotfl:0 -

I hate this corporate nonsense about 'reaching out' - everyone seems to be reaching out nowadays rather than just 'asking'!!0 -
Both low stars promptly removed by Ebay, with little fuss.
But once again different views on contacting buyers. After requesting buyers feedback was removed, this is what was said :-
EBAY 22:55:02
If I may ask, have you confirmed with your buyer that they left you a low score?
TECHSPEC 22:55:37
No, your not allowed to speak to buyers about DSR's
EBAY 22:56:11
You are, this is not a breach of our policy.
On the plus side - an Ebay rep with more knowledge may have also argued i had no case for removal

have a 3 * for IAD for a brand new unopened item. This 3 * doesn't show on any reports despite being left on 1.6.14. Spoken with Ebay again who say it is strange that it doesn't show, but the defect stands.
This is a joke, we are being judged / penalised for information that Ebay can't substantiate and we have no way of know if it is correct.
Again, I have been urged to "reach out" to the buyer, and was told that it is no longer against Ebay policy, but as I pointed out, what's the point, the defect will remain on my account regardless of what the buyer says. You're only young once, but you can be immature forever
