idiot motorway overtakers who cut in with just 2 car lengths gap

I know I'll get eaten alive for this but every single time the above scenario happens to me it's a woman driver. Even the lovely Mrs Warehouse has noticed this now.
Really annoying when you're pulling a trailer at 60 and overtake the same car 2 or 3 times!Pants0 -

I have to agree - Mrs Iceweasel was the first to point it out.
The trailer problem is made worse if it's a small trailer that is invisible to the middle lane hogger if they do actually look in their mirror.
They don't understand why I don't overtake in lane 3.
Even if the trailer was bigger and more obvious they might still not understand.
I get plenty middle lane hoggers at around 55mph or so (they possibly think they are doing 60mph as their speedo might well say so) on the M6 in Cumbria.
All lanes empty as far as you can see - but they doggedly trundle along in lane 2.
Flashing headlights and/or a short blow of the horn means nothing to such folks.
So to all intents and purposes the motorway is blocked if I want to run legal.
I never seen any of the police traffic cars that feature on TV.0 -
Normally I just shrug, but this classic on Friday on the way home had me thinking of this thread.
M62 from Manchester to Widnes/St Helens turn off. Third lane, arrive behind a year old Scirocco doing 60 - 65 in front of me by Risley. Don't take a whole lot of notice to start with, motorway is moving, so-so busy but not jammed. After a few miles, I see that there isn't a whole lot in front of him/her and regular clear areas of the middle lane - I've given in doing the quick flash thing as it never achieves anything. By the time I got to turning off the motorway, 5 cars had moved from behind me, into the middle lane and then cut in front of the Scirocco. I wasn't on his bumper either.
So many times the driver could have pulled over and let others past, I just don't get it.
feels so much better getting it off my chest!:o0 -

Women just like to take the lead :rotfl:
Actually, you may just have a point. I hate sitting behind another car, even at 70, so if there's a clear road ahead I'll overtake to be in front. Occasionally a lapse of concentration may have me slowing slightly, or maybe here's a slight hill and I notice the car behind is getting closer to me so I have to accelerate to prevent them from needing to overtake.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -

I take the lead in enough areas of my life without adding the road into the mix;). Having driven vans and 7.5s for many years and generally spending my whole life around trucks, one of my rare good habits is maintianing speed followed by moving from lane 3 or 2 into lane 1 for the exit at about a mile off the junction.0 -

I'm surprised at the number of people who think it is ok to cut in front of another car to prove a point. It's not it is dangerous driving worse that middle lane hogging. You should always wait until you can see the other car in the INSIDE mirror, not the side mirrors (assuming this is a car of course). The view angle on the inside mirror is less than the door mirrors so when the rear car appears in the inside you have left a comfortable gap. There should always be a 2 second gap between cars or if the car behind is an idiot 4s in front to compensate for the 0s behind. If a car overtakes and then cuts in front the good driver hits the brakes to restore the 2s gap, which is irritating.
The choice of when to move in is debatable. It will depend on the traffic. If you are doing 70 and the inside lane is doing 56 because of lorries then you'll only want to move in when, a) you'll travel in that lane for a reasonable amount of time, b) when lanes 2 and 3 are reasonable free that you'll be able to get back out again when you want to.
I've met drivers who go lane 2-> lane 3 then lane 3->lane 2 ->lane 1 even though there are lorries in lane 1 and not much traffic in lane 2 and 3. What I do is count the seconds when they try to teach me. If I get to say 20 or 30s then maybe they were right and I have misjudged the relative speeds. Typically I don't get to 5 before the "instructing" car is bouncing out of lane 1 to lane 2 to lane 3 again. I wonder about their fuel costs as they zig-zag all the way to where they are going. They must do more miles that the rest of us. Since changing lanes is more hazardous than staying in one lane then they must also have a higher accident rate too, like for like that is.
I'd also point out that you're not causing an obstruction if you are in lane 2 and doing a good (cough) 70 mph. If someone wants to do 90 then their choice but I don't see that this means I need to get out of their way. I will if I can without causing me issues. I won't if I can see that 5s later I will need to move out for another lorry and there is nothing in lane 3. What's so special about the other driver that I have to move out of his way when lane 3 is clear for him and it would cause excessive lane changing for me?
Just my opinion. Feel free to disagree and I'll feel free to ignore you

If you were driving in the correct lane, they wouldn't need to 'zig zag' around you. What's so special about the other driver that I have to move out of his way when lane 3 is clear for him and it would cause excessive lane changing for me?
There's nothing special about them at all. Last time I checked the Highway Code, it said you should keep to the left lane unless overtaking - it doesn't state you should only move to the left if you see a 'special' vehicle.
Why do you feel that you are so special that you need to try and maintain the traffic speed by having your own slow, middle lane, pity party protest?
I sincerely hope that one day, when you have a car behind you and you refuse to move into the correct lane, it turns out to be an unmarked police car and you get duly fined.0 -
Yeah, Id disagree. If you see the headlight of the vehicle you are passing in your side veiw mirror then it is ok to overtake. My 2p

I wait until I can see the car in my rear view mirror unless it's going significantly slower than me. With trucks I return as soon as I see them in my side mirror as I know the gap between us will widen quickly. What will your verse be?
