The UK Post Office is not to be trusted - they are a shell company

Recently became aware that the UK Post Office has become even more of a joke than they ever were.

My son wanted to hand me down his old mobile phone and send it to me whilst I was aboad in Europe.

He discovered:
  • Post Office refuse to provide any security guarantee for electronic equipment
  • Airsure service is no longer available
  • Prices are a rip-off
Why do we even bother with them anymore? They are no doubt still full of long-term hangers on that are only there for their (still) public funded pension scheme whilst those capable of doing real work are employed on second and third class terms (casual contracts/no significant benefits).

The tracking service gave the following information today:

"Your item, posted on 30/04/14 with reference RNXXXXXXXXXXGB has arrived in OFFICE UNKNOWN and is being processed for delivery."

What total garbage for a postal organisation to spout. They are totally useless.

They are indeed a shell of the former organisation which was once revered around the world.

I now wouldn't trust them with yours ... and would recommend you didn't either.

I do hope the OP tells us when its delivered and when sent so we can see just how good or bad they are.

we use the post office because it more cost and time effective than taking a letter halfway across the country ourselves. we would need to take a day off work, be treated badly by shell staff and forced to eat a halal sandwich against our will (and legal rights) only to drive halfway across the country to deliver a letter to someone who would not be in, and then drive back home.
Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"

Post Office - a shell company? You are complaining about a service provided by Royal Mail (not the PO). Their rules are fairly clear and the surprise is why you even continued to give them custom with so much competition around.

As for the tracking - this rarely works goes non GB destinations as the system uses codes to describe the delivery office, as the destination was an EU one this would be blank.

Try UPS or DPD next time - it tracks all the way and s usually cheaper too.

Once the package has left the UK, Royal Mail have to rely on the information provided to them by the delivery company in whatever country the package was sent to.
