I moved to Plusnet back in March. Switch-over from Sky went as smoothly as my move from Demon to Sky the year before.
Plusnet reckoned I would get 17Mb?s line speed (I averaged 21Mb/s with Sky and 7.6Mb/s with my Demon 8Mb package), so in the interests of saving £5 a month over Sky, I switched.
To be honest, I wish I hadn't bothered. I am getting an average of 11Mb/s (I am part of the SamKnows Broadband speed monitoring survey, so have accurate data on my real average data speeds).
I can't watch streaming video from mid-afternoon to late evening without buffering or disconnection issues (I use iPlayer, 4OD and Demand5 a lot) and listening to internet radio can be a bit hit and miss as well.
Just like my Plusnet connection, my old Demon one was also a BT reseller broadband package, but unlike Plusnet I never suffered from buffering on my Demon account.
Can't wait for the 18 months to expire so I can switch back to Sky again.

I have a nice thread on the Plusnet community forums with our problems. I know exactly how you feel. Last week, one of their staff pushed a button (or omitted to push a button, not quite clear which one) and disconnected our services completely on Friday afternoon. They didn't reconnect the phone till Monday (they can't do it during the weekend it seems, even though they admitted it was a blunder on their behalf) and we're not getting our broadband back till next week Wednesday.
We also had 4 days without internet last month, because of a problem on their end. Took me 4 days of tickets and phone calls that time to find somebody in their staff that had the knowledge on what was happening. Most of them just seem to loose their way once they get to the end of their script and it still isn't working.
We're moving to Virgin next month, at least the local guy I've been dealing with for them seems on the ball and when I called their call centre it took 3 rings to get an answer, instead of 30 minutes. Just trying to get the cancellation fees dropped from Plusnet now as I don't think it's fair them charging us £80 for leaving when they have made such blunders and are unable to offer us the fibre services we have with them now at our new address, though I've had the complaint ticket open since last Friday and it hasn't been answered yet ^^
On a positive note, their forum staff are nice and do seem to try, at least. Still sad you have to go into their public forums to get things moving.0 -
Hi patman99,
I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing slower than expected speeds.
In order to look into this properly I'd advise raising a fault here:
http://faults.plus.net
Our faults team can then investigate this for you and will provide an update as soon as they can.
Hope this is resolved for you soon!
