Just moved house, no signal on my Vodafone phone

Just moved into new apartment and everything is great except I can't pick up any signal on my Vodafone contract phone! I have been with them for just over 2 year, and I am half way through this years contract.

My girlfriend is on O2 and she has full reception on her phone. I am in the middle of Manchester so I should be getting at least some signal....what are my chances of ringing Vodafone and them letting me leave due to having no signal at home? This is mostly where I will use it.

If possible, I would like to switch to O2.

Cheers

Josh

If you are in the middle of Manchester you should get a good signal on Vodaphone, I have been having some problems with my work phone (on a Vodaphone contract) all this week and others on the team are having the same problems, probably a cell down somewhere near Manchester.

If you have literally just moved give them a ring and explain the problem, if there is a cell down they will know. If not you might get a sympathetic ear to your request to terminate the contract but the only way to find out is to call them. Good luck.

Just spoken to Vodafone, very friendly lady but not what I wanted to hear! Said that if my signal was lost when I was already living somewhere, then that would be grounds for termination of my contract, but as I moved to a new place I would have to pay the disconnection charge (easily £100+) as I have 6 months left on my contract.

My mum came over yesterday and she is on Vodafone, she also got no signal inside my place, while O2 and Virgin phones were fine. I don't think it's very fair that Vodafone want me to pay the remainder of my contract when it isn't my fault their coverage doesn't cover my apartment.

Does anyone have any recommendations on this? Writing a letter maybe?

    Thanks

    Josh

A friend of mine had the same problem, not sure if it was with voda or orange... Rang up and complained, then asked to speak to a manager, he dug his heels in and he eventually got to speak to one. Was told he could not cancel, the manager gave the authority for him to receive a new handset (they would not admit it was their network that was at fault, claimed it was the handset). He got a top of the range sony handset and sold it to pay for the remaining line rental.

To make is worse, when you check my postcode on the Vodafone Coerage Viewer, it clearly states that there is full 3G/2G phone coverage where I live! :(

There is two sides to it though. It isn't their fault that you moved.

However as suggested by others it may be a technical glitch with one of their transmitters and as such the signal could improve.

If not I would try a letter to them.

Yes I partly agree but it does state on their website that my new place has a good signal but yet I can't even make a call in my living room, not really acceptable.

I have emailed them but no reply as of yet, might write a letter and get it in the post tomorrow.

  • My house is the same. I get full signal on any contract except Voda. Outside my house, full sig on voda, step inside my house and it dies. Its funny to watch a few of my friends walk around my house, holding their phones in the air, cursing. I learned this problem when I went for a voda contract 5 yrs ago. Couldnt get a signal anywhere in my house unless I sit, nose pressed, against the living room window (no use). So took it back to shop and cancelled under the 14 day rule
