New First Utility Customer

I have been with First Utility for a few years. At first they were fine but they have attracted too many customers in a short space of time and seem unable to cope.
I haven't had a statement from them since November last year. How hard can it be for a utility company to send out a statement each month?0 -
I was a bit nervous about switching from EDF as I have been with them for a few years and have been happy with the service and in light of negative comments about FU.
But, I am a low user so paying the fixed daily charges with EDF was getting a bit silly.
I made my first phone call to FU customer services as I had a couple of issues with logging in online and I was pleasantly surprised! The advisor sorted me out very quickly and confirmed everything is on track for the switch. My direct debit is set at £50 for dual fuel based on the annual consumption figures I gave them. This will probably come down a bit more as I am now using a woodburner.
So far so good!
Assuming you were on the EDF Blue+ April 2014 tariff before the switch (which was a really competitive tariff overall) then presumably if you are now paying £50 a month to FU you were paying about £50 a month to EDF previously (assuming you told FU the amount of energy you have used in the past before the use of the woodburner)
Otherwise I fear something has gone horribly wrong
I hope you regularly use a comparison site to find the best deal for you, and input accurate estimates of of energy usage in kWh.0 -

I do check comparisons regularly and nothing has gone horribly wrong. I wasn't on the April 14 tariff but I was paying more with EDF mainly because of the much higher daily charges. As a low user the daily charges stung quite a bit. Thanks for checking that I know what I'm doing. I stand by my statement that the switch has been nothing less than trouble free0 -
Just registered with MSE to get this out there.
Switched recently from EDF to First Utility relatively hassle free - no switching issues to report so would recommend. However first (fixed) direct debit was taken only a couple of days after the switch so I immediately had around 1 month worth of credit (£100). I know I had the choice of selecting the DD date but had no idea at the time when the switch would be completed.
First email response basically said that the DD is set against one of several set dates during the month. And not to worry about the credit since it will be reviewed 'periodically' (which happens to be in 3 months time!). I challenged this and despite a standard irrelevant response about building up credit in the summer for the winter blah blah blah FU did agreed to refund the credit, albeit within 28 days. Maybe I'm just a sceptic but there always seems to be a drive to build up your credit and a reluctancy to pay it back, right from the word go.0 -
FU wanted to take my first DD quite early but I changed the date to later in the month without issue0

Hi all
Well as previously reported my switch went remarkably well. I submitted my first months meter readings and a week later got an accurate bill. Direct debits are being taken as planned too.
I'm really pleased I switched!!0
