Heritage retail park, crewe

I have received via post today charge notice for parking at this retail park in crewe which we have used for years without a problem, there are no parking meters. I did not see any new signage stating parking was limited to 2 hours I was there for 2 hours 27 minutes, the charge is £90 but if I pay within 14 days the amount is reduced to £50. the notice is from total parking solutions and states I was in violation of the terms and conditions displayed on the signage.

Should I pay?

At the bottom of the letter is says operating in accordance with British parking associations code of practice.

I parked on 16 April and received the letter today 30 April exactly 14 days later.

I have read posts re appealing but do I really have a case ? But £50 for 27 minutes seems a bit steep!

thanks J

Have you read the NEWBIES sticky at the top of the forum index, because 99.99% of answers are in that?

Should you pay? Depends whether you have enough 'fight' to send out two template letters/emails pre-prepared for you in the above sticky to get rid of the charge.

I know this retail park its free parking for 2 hours . There are signs to this effect. If you have been in 1 of the shops e.g the furniture stores for the period they can (if they remember you and will vouch for you) contact the parking company to ask to cancel the charge.

Edit- sorry I was thinking of the Grand Junction Retail park ... But it may still work the same way about getting off the ticket.

I was shopping and browsing at curtain materials in Dunelm, I have a proof of purchase I was there on that day so will start with them.

I am worried if I start an appeal (I will miss the deadline and have to pay £90 instead of £50)

Work with the advice in the NEWBIES sticky and flash your POPLA appeal here for fine tuning; who cares what the deadline is and by how much it increases. You ain't gonna be paying anything! Nada, zilch, rien, nowt, zero, nothing!

    Stay with the script!

I am worried you haven't read the sticky thread yet nor noticed we win every time, for OVER A YEAR!

I'd contact the local Crewe newspaper too. The more people complain about how they won't be using the retail park again due to the scamming PPCs the more likely they'll be kicked off so people can shop in peace!

If you take it to POPLA with the right wording you'll win and pay £0. There's a good chance that if you use the template in the Newbies thread you'll also pay £0 before it gets that far as the PPC will realise you have been on here so they are a hiding to nothing if they try and collect their pound of flesh from you.

Fire off a standard appeal letter, like the ones in the newbies thread at the top. They'll most likely reject it and send you a snotty legalistic letter - but it should have the magic POPLA code.

You'll then use the excellent POPLA templates and have their nasty charge cancelled. You'll pay nothing and you'll feel good about that, and you'll view these PPCs for what they really are.

Trust the forum - it works every time.

FOLLOW ADVICE - Sent first appeal - heard nothing, got charge notice reminder in post.
About ten days later - sorted - email received from TPS after sending first appeal copied from the instructions and flowchart in the NEWBIES sticky thread :-

    Dear Sir,
With reference to the Charge Notice issued to the above vehicle, after reviewing our data and in view of the representations made in connection with its issue, we can confirm that on this occasion only, as a gesture of goodwill, we have decided to cancel this Notice and no further action is to be taken.
    Yours faithfully,

Gesture of goodwill? As Jim Royle would say, 'Goodwill my 4rse'. :rotfl:
