We had some double glazed windows fitted across the back of our house 6years ago now.

How long exactly? If it's under 6 years you might be able to do something. Over 6 years and you're snookered.

You have had 5 years wear so just get replacement glass units, individually they are not that expensive compared with the windows new. I had 7 units replaced for about £400 last year and you will get a fresh warranty with them certified by FENSA.
Agree with this. OP, look around for companies specialising in replacement glass units, they may not be as expensive as you might think.

And also there's companies that "remake" the units in various ways.

This includes tricks of fitting valve contraptions to get the condensation out, and recharging the silica-gel dessicant, to dismantling the panels, cleaning and resealing them.

    Check out their costs too!

Do you really think that 6 years is an acceptable time for double glazed units to last? I've never known a single one to fail, on windows that are 15+ years old.

Have you actually read the OP? It states:
We complained to the FENSA registered fitter who pointed out we only had 5 years on the glass units and 10 on the frames.

It really does not matter what you or I think. If they were only guaranteed for 5 years, its reasonable to assume that they were of a cheap quality. Of course the fitter might be lying

I agree that there may be an argument to be made that they should have lasted longer.
Also, the bit about going out of business only applies to a warranty claim; the OP still has their statutory rights against the retailer.

The OP only has rights against the seller of the goods and service. Its is not clear if the manufacturer supplied and fitted, a retailer supplied and a fitter fitted, or a fitter bought them and fitted them. The point is any claim is against the seller. If the seller is the fitter or a retailer its up to him to claim from the manufacturer.
