I tried to claim from GE/Debenhams and now they want £10

I used the standard forms from MSE as I found an old Debenhams store card that had PPI on it. I received a standard form back with a box ticked for 'You have not attached the £10 fee (per request) for a Data Subject Access Request'. Is this normal? I thought you could check for free?

These "standard" forms you mention seems to be the wrong one. It looks like you have requested a data subject access request which costs £10.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). You can ask the simple question, "Did I have PPI?" and get a straight answer if it's available-usually by telephone. Is this normal? I thought you could check for free?
However, if you want to know exactly what the Bank have kept on file for you then you send a Subject Access Request (SAR) letter which costs £10.0
