Now the URL appears in the field at the top, next to the address bar, and is truncated to uselessness.

The problem isn't a universal one in FF29 or we would all suffer from it.

Ah yeah, just installed "Classic Theme Restorer" and after moving a few things around it's (sort of) back how I like it.

I never said that it solves everyone's problems, I said it solves his problem. I know that for sure because I suffered from the same problem and it solved it.

OK, I wasn't suggesting you did. Just pointed out the fact that others hadn't necessarily experienced the effect. There are more than two people reading the forum.;)

PROTIP: If you click the button a second time you get the option to select a folder. It's unintuitive but there you go.

e.g. you don't double-click, you click (select favourite) and then click again, and the menu comes up.

Until a few years ago I used Seamonkey, which still has the old-style look. It's very tenuously descended from the old Netscape Communicator suite from the late 1990s:
