I was in robert dyas yesterday and i saw a stem generator iron i didnt' take note of the brand but it was £129 down to £49.99! i will see if i can find it onlne.

:j I bought a Tefal one from Makro about 4 years ago and it's brilliant - I use it nearly everyday. It cost me £60 or £70 then. I wouldn't hesitate to go for a Tefal one. :T

Thanks all for the advice . I have decided to go for the Philips GC 8261 . Thi s is the top of the range Philips model and Amazon.com is currently selling at £150 including P&P ( RRP £200 ) where most other discount retailers are about £175. I am hoping it has all the benefits of the GC8220 which was Which Best buy June 2007 ( Thanks VinnieVegas and Mad Mac for the list).

Will let everyone know if it is worth the money.

I bought the Russell Hobbs one from Robert Dyas on Friday (£49.99). I've never had a steam generator before, so I haven't got anything to compare it with. I think it's fantastic. Makes ironing much quicker.

If my soleplate gets dirty I use a plastic sponge pad (Tesco), it gets it off a treat and does not scratch the plate, hope that helps!
