If you are going to write to them then the only letter you should send is the prove it letter - Letter when you know nothing about about the debt - AKA "Prove it" letter

But if i also explain that I haven't lived in England for 8 years , proof I sold the house where this so called debt is..wouldn't it be a lot quicker?

I wouldn't give them all that information at this stage no.

If you are going to write to them then it is best just to send that letter which very specifically does not acknowledge the debt and requires them to provide proof of the debt.

Thank you for the link for the Prove It letter. The reason I haven't contacted the company before is that I have read the reports of how nasty these company's are. This is the second letter my mum has received and I really do not want them to start phoning or knocking on the door because my mum is disabled and cannot talk properly... Gets very upset when she doesn't understand what's going on. So should I put in the letter that they can only contact by post? No telephone calls etc? With time I know I can sort this out but I really don't want my mum upset.
