Confused debt collectors

Could it be a parking fine or something similar that came through after you left and you didn't see?0

I doubt it. I hate debt. Control freak when it comes to money. I'm also one of those annoying people that drive at to the correct speed limit. Lol. So if it is my debt I would be shocked. But maybe with the stress of moving I overlooked something. I hope when the credit report comes through i can finally make some sense of it. But 8yrs to get to mums address. It's a long time.0

I got a parking ticket without realising it.
It is a long time, and there is a possibility its nothing to do with you but usually the old saying 'no smoke without fire', applies.
Unfortunately, if they are writing to your mothers house they will continue to do so and will probably threaten a visit (although 9 times out of 10 this is just a threat) but its unlikely to go away soonish without some form of approach by you.0 -
This could very well be just a debt collector looking for someone with the same or similar name to you.
Its very common when they are trying to find a debtor for them to send out lots of identical letters to lots of 'Mr Tarzans' in an area as a scattergun approach in the hope that the actual debtor responds or even possibly that another unrelated person may pay up scared that it could be their debt.
I would imagine that scenario is more likely than identity theft, but getting a copy of your credit file is a sensible step.
If it is just a fishing letter then contacting them is likely to mean that more letter are posted to mother's address. I definitely wouldn't do that until you have seen your credit file.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Oh if it is just that and I've got myself in a state for nothing.....OMG!! But I hope it is just that. I will wait until
I finally sort out this credit report... Just getting documents together... Bit hard when 8yrs later everything is chucked and got married. If it is my debt it won't show up anyway because it's over 6yrs. If there is debt on it then I know someone's stole my id. Thanks everyone for your help. Will try and stop stressing and let nature take it's course.0 -
You can't really jump to this "someones stolen my identity" theory until you know what its all about. Too many people today jump to the conclusion that 'it wasn't me'.
Check it out and if its not you, then you can deal with that issue.0 -
If it is your debt the chances are it's statute barred anyway.
Good luck0 -
Hi, update!! My mum has received another letter and it's a catalogue company... From 2011!!! So someone has stolen my identity. Waiting for my credit report to find out what other surprises are on it. Argh!!!! :mad:0

So does the letter also give a past address of yours that is correct? does it include your correct date of birth?
If it does not then there is still a good chance of this debt belonging to another unconnected person who just happens to have the same name as you. I wouldn't panic until you actually see your credit files.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
It's came from my last address in the uk to my old address at my mums. I cannot phone the debt company because it's a funny number. But will write to them straight away and see what they say. If anybody has some good ideas of how to word my letter I would be highly appreciated.0
