Contract to Sim Only

I have kept my IPhone 4 as no real issues about 6 months past my contract date.

I foolishly believed that If I could revert to a sim only talk plan then They would tell me

Now having been told that I can do this by other people I have done so. However, I have now spent something of the order of 150 pounds unnnecessarily.

Questions:

(1) how are mobile phone companies allowed to let you carry on paying over the odds for something when there is a cheaper alternative? Why do they think any customer would want to pay more?

(2) Why does your talk plan not change to a sim-only deal automatically at the end of your contract? Basically seems that if you are confused by jargon(like me) they rip you off!

(3) So far, Orange have offered me £30 compensation. This is after 5 separate phone conversations where each one has taken me in a different direction.

Call One- tried to compensate me by offering the same deals as a shop

Call Two- tried to sell me lots of things

Call Three- (offshore) allegedely sold me a sim only contract without cancelling my other one

Call Four- told me that the offshore person got it all wrong and she would investigate and get back to me.

Call Five(2 weeks later) told me that my queries had been discussed and notes written on my file but no answers were then given to me. He then offered me £30!

Should I push this further?

    1) It is up to you to manage your finances, iphones are not the cheapest, so in some respects , they probably wouldn't see you as a target candidate to want to save money.

    2) It's up to you to manage your affairs, you agreed to a contract of a minimum term, after the minimum term it is up to you to seek alternative airtime deals .

    3) You are lucky to be offered £30, take it and in future manage your accounts :cool:

    Aren't all companies doing this?

    Is it a rhetoric question? In fact they think that some customers will pay and they are right in thinking so.

    Because it's what the contract says that you agreed to.
    Basically seems that if you are confused by jargon(like me) they rip you off!
    That's what the T&C exist for - to clarify the jargon.

    Take the compensation.
    Pay Orange £20ish to get your iPhone unlocked.
    Run. After the merger EE=chaos. There are plenty of much better options around. Some virtual networks use EE signal if you want to stick to it.

    You signed a minimum 24 month contract at ££ per month, the other alternative is they start cutting you off at the 24 month mark and you lose your number, 99 percent of the time your harassed to upgrade anyway

    This is where people do get confused and it is not helped by loose talk in the media.

    You sign a contract with a minimum term - say 24 months. This means if you cancel within these 24 months you will have to pay a charge near enough equal to the remainder of the minimum term. When the 24 months have passed, the contract is still in force but you are free to end the contract by giving 30 days notice.

    Why would ANY company say "you could save £20pm by changing your contract with us?" Companies are there to make a profit. I hope you shop around for your car/home insurance and gas/electricity and don't rely on the companies to charge you the best price in the market.
