SIM only, only receiving (not making) calls
I've been searching for ages and couldn't find anything that helped me, so thought I'd best just ask! Sorry if I'm repeating something that's already been answered.
I need a mobile number that I can give out freely on the internet and elsewhere, that I would use only to receive calls and texts. I don't mind what the call cost is because I will NEVER make any calls or send any texts from that number.
I have plenty of old mobiles and thought it would be a simple matter of buying a cheap SIM and unlocking the old phone. But would I have to pay a monthly subscription?
Can someone please advise me? Thank you

I do the same if I'm selling anything on Gumtree etc. I just use any networks sim and top as and when necessary. I try to get the cheapest also you can change as often as you want. Depends how many texts etc you want as to which network you use.0

All PAYG tariffs at all providers by definition don't require any subscription and the credit lasts forever.
Normally you have to make a chargeable call or send a text at least once every six months (can vary) to keep your sim alive, but there is one provider where incoming calls can do the job - giffgaff.0 -
If it has to be a mobile then any PAYG SIM will do. Just replace it when they kick you off the network for not topping up.
I personally use a SIPGATE number which takes messages from callers and emails me to pick up the message on the internet. Very handy and free.:footie:

I have one from Giffgaff for exactly that reason.
In addition, good coverage on O2 and if you do ever need to make a call or text they are quite reasonable as well, 10p/6p. International calls are also cheap if needed in an emergency and 0800 are free.====0 -
You could always use an Orange Payg SIM. At least then you can abuse it for Orange Wednesdays. (You have to pay 35p for a text though), minimum top up is £5, so it will last forever.
Or O2 for priority moments.
Alternatively, like someone has suggested. Giffgaff - If you have a friend on GG then get them to refer a SIM to you, you both get £5 credit when the SIM is activated and you top up £10.The 'Save 12k in 2014' Challenge: £639/ £8,000 (#208)
Swagbucks: 299 SB / 849 SB Goal0 -
Get PAYGO 02 card, top £10. Make a chargeable call say 50p every six months
Should last you 10 years0
