insurance for my 15y/o
My son has a new iPhone on a 2 year contract, I told him it
isn't to leave the house until it is insured! I intended to find
insurance for it myself rather than take out the expensive
shop's own policy that I was offered. However...I have discovered
(so it seems) that under 16 y/olds cannot be covered by this
insurance - (which also means he wouldn't have been able to
claim against the insurance I was sold for his previous phone!)
Can anyone confirm that this is correct? or recommend any
way I can somehow insure his phone? (using home insurance
is last resort due to excess etc)

A recent thread: iPhone insurance for a teenager under 16.I told him it isn't to leave the house until it is insured!0

Ask a broker - it is true a 16yo is usually uninsurable, however policies exist that cover family use, and as long as he lives at home would be covered.
However a gotcha is he won't be covered for his contract - he's not old enough to enter into one. If you've taken out the contract for him, you need to check if he is covered. (No such issues with PAYG).0 -
I looked at phone insurance for my teenager (for a phone that cost a lot less than an iphone) but I thought that the most likely problem would be that it would get stolen from her bag at school, and they might argue that it had been left unattended in a public place.
In the end I decided to self-insure by putting away money each month instead rather than giving it to an insurer. 12 months on, she's got a reasonable amount to put towards a refurbished replacement for her current phone if needs be.0 -
thanks for the replies. I wouldn't be bothered about insurance
if it was a cheaper phone. I have had an email reply from
an enquiry to Protect you Bubble, they will insure it in my
name but for his use (contract is in my name as I'm paying)
as Buzby said.
Grumbler I'm guessing you don't have teenagers!0 -
it wont cover out of bundle costs though if he runs up a big billWhat goes around-comes around0
