This isn't a money saving forum. Its a forum for people to put blame everyone but themselves0

SOGA isn't relevant here, it was a £45,000 car that is now very middle-aged with a known and recurring fault. Better to get it fixed than waste time fruitlessly seeking redress from a phantom saviour.0

Is one view, the alternative view is it's a forum for people to get advice on consumer rights legislation which has been brought in over the years to protect consumers from badly behaved businesses0 -

SoG certainly does apply to pre-loved cars although the expectations might well be less depending on price & age.
On a £10k car my expectations would be pretty high compared to say a £1k or £500 car. For £10k I'd certainly expect longer than 10 months0 -
You can keep on steering the OP to waste his energy on a false errand if you like, but he bought the car at less than 20% of it's new value and with a persistent and known fault, no part of consumer law will work to provide the £2k that the car now needs to fix.0

OP....Have a read of http://www.berr.gov.uk/files/file25486.pdf
it's a guide for traders and gives all the details you need, second hand goods & cars on page 17.0 -

I agree. The OP appears to have paid over the odds for the car in the first place though as the initial purchase price is very steep. What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -
yep, maybe but not hugely given it was from a dealer and only had 60k miles (cheapest dealer equivalent on autotrader now is about £10k)
If I was ever tempted away from petrol, turbo & quattro I'd certainly look at BMW, they handle well and the 3.0 diesel engine is an eye opener (although I think I'd go for a 330 rather than a 730)0 -
Well here's one, an 05 with ok, 10k more miles on but still well under average and with a good spec for the same price the OP paid http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/bmw/7-series/bmw-7-series-730d-se-4dr-auto-great-colours/2246348?isexperiment=true
so those on autotrader seem remarkably hopeful!
Agree on the general miles/cost. I'd be more inclined towards the 5 series though for a bit more useable space (or a 3 series touring). What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -
so seems the op did ok, £8k for an 04 and a year later an 05 is the same money (or more)
Either way, it's a hell of a lot of car & technology for £8k (swirl flaps not withstanding)0
