In need of some handy hagling tips when buying a used car

Buy on condition, not on price. What may be cheaper in the short term may cost alot more in the long term0

Don't look to keen and keep referring to a different car your planning to go and see next, this other car can either be another Yaris if you can find one either the same but a little cheaper or the same price but is newer or find a different make (ie a Honda Jazz) which is very similar age spec price etc.
If the dealer thinks you're going to look at another car they are more likely to do a deal if you buy it there and then.
The other way is simply say I'll give you £3500 / £3750 whichever you want to pay and say nothing, hold your hand out to shake on the deal if he doesn't don't start saying ok I'll give you this; make your offer & just say Ok here's my number if you change your mind and walk away.0 -
Bit pointless if the car is worth say over £4k.
OP if you haven't done your homework and know a good deal or a bad deal you will never be able to haggle effectively.
But in this case its not that much of a bargain. I would expect at least a few hundred off.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Totally agree.
But the trouble is the folk approach a dealer, not doing any homework then supposedly haggle to get a drop in the price of 20% and thinking they have a bargain when in fact the car was 30% over priced to start with.0 -

this is the car i have been looking at,not too sure if the picture showing the inside of the car is the right car,as it has leather seats but they don't look like that in the photo.i am also trading a kia picanto 05 plate in against it.
thanks for all the advice0 -
Sounds like Evans Halshaw! They will also charge you £99 admin fee and £20 for fuel to drive away with! Total shysters and they hide behind company rules.
If you really want the car ask for extras like the next service or tax. Also can you find a car locally to "price match"? make sure it is same spec and miles.
We had this buying an ex demonstrator from them. Even walking away for a few days didn't strengthen our position. It really annoys me that they will put prices up the day after you look and test drive the car.
On the plus side the service I got in the deal was done well according to a mechanic friend.0 -

For a few hundred quid more you can get one that's 2yrs newer.....
Also what's with the near side rear wind / wheel arch or is it just the reflection within the photo?0 -
Looks like damage to me, although the dealer is a bit careless with their photo`s, that`s the interior of a Vauxhall Zafira.0

How about this? I`ve dealt with this dealer before bought a Yaris from them, still have it. I`ve found they`re very good to deal with and room for negotiation too.
And as a bonus going by your location not too far from where you are.
