    Find one cheaper!

Find something wrong with it. Does it need tyres? Is is due a service? If so, which one? It its tax/duty up soon? MOT?

Also, if you are serious and have a mate with you, being a cash buyer helps. People find it hard to turn down a big wad of notes right in their face. (Works best with private buyers of course)
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?

There are two ways to get a better price, either keep what you are buying the same and reduce the price or keep the price the same and get extra things.

If they arent willing to reduce the price is there anything they could throw in to sweeten the deal for you?

After the first 30 seconds of speaking to the dealer they will have already worked out how much you want the vehicle and so what they are willing to sell the vehicle for.

Bartering is about attitude as much as about the words that come out of your mouth. In fact more about attitude. If your a shy timid girl getting exited at the prospect of owning the car then expect nothing. And likewise

Three friends go there separately and offer £3000-3200 then you turn up and offer £3500 cash.

Make an offer that you feel is suitable (e.g £3500) and walk away if they disagree. Leave your phone number and they might call back.

If not, and they still don't drop the price, ask for something as well! A full service, another years MOT and a years tax at the very least, plus a full tank of fuel, floor mats, longer warranty and/or any other accessories that you may want?

A bit different I know, but when I bought my last guitar it was advertised at £500. I asked if they would accept any less as I'd seen the same guitar for £450 and he refused. I asked if he'd throw in a few goodies, and he accepted. I walked away with the guitar, a decent case, strap, lead, etc worth in excess of £100 for only £50 more than the other deal, and he still made a profit, so we both won.

And to be honest, this is a two-way street. If they want a sale, they should have to work for it too! If they're being this uptight about the price, do you really want to be dealing with these people?

Hope you get a good deal :).

£4K seems like a lot for an 06 plate Yaris

Find out roughly what it's value is from a free valuation site and find similarly specced, age and mileage cars on autotrader.

Bit pointless if the car is worth say over £4k.

OP if you haven't done your homework and know a good deal or a bad deal you will never be able to haggle effectively.

And if it is a good deal why would you expect the dealer to haggle?

A quick search on autotrader suggests that £3995 for an 06 reg Yaris is not outrageous but hardly a bargain. Of course without details of the model it's hard to know more.

One thing that is clear is that there are 350 of them for sale nationally priced between £3500 and £4500 so the OP should have some choice in his local area.
