EDF blue ending now - advice please

The cheapest dual fuel for me is OVO and less than £50 cheaper than the EDF August 2015 fix. My own switch to extraenergy V2 is about 30 odd pounds cheaper than this tariff. I don't think it was available when I started the switching process and I don't think I would have switched for that saving . At the time all the edf tariffs were 3 figures dearer so it was a no-brainer. I'm wondering if the big 6 are now looking to reduce prices to keep their market share. OK, I have some small issues with edf but the lack of communication from extraenergy (who now supply my electric I think) is just poor. Frying pan and fire springs to mind. Furthermore , should prices fall I now have a £50 exit penalty which I wouldn't have with edf aug 2015.0

Thanks for the info benwarwick123, just switched from the June 2015 to August 2015 fix.0 -
Surely some mistake
Please post your anticipated annual consumptions in kWh and your supply region (or first part of your postcode)
I like your username, very appropriate, as indeed is mine.If money saving starts to involve irritation or frustration the fine line between thrift and greed should be examined.0 -
gas 15000, elec 8000, CR3
8000kWh p.a of electricity?
Anway, like I suspected, you appear to have made some mistake.
According to energyhelpline.com,
EDF June £1779 p.a
EDF Aug £1699 p.a
So a £80 saving per year
But Ovo is only £1610p.a., so still an additional £89p.a. saving on the EDF Aug tariff
Even better is Flow at £1582p.a, representing £117p.a saving over EDF Aug tariff
You could even save a further £11p.a on that by going to separate suppliers.0 -

Maybe it depends if they were comparing with the new lower 9th April prices or the pre-9th April Ovo prices?
They did say around £150 and about £75, so £169 and £89 isn't far off and if using the pre-9th prices they may not have made a mistake at the time, but just haven't realised that although EDF have bought out a cheaper tariff, Ovo's tariff is also slightly cheaper, so they're actually comparing the wrong two tariffs and you are correct.
Difference between Pre-9th Ovo and Jul 2015 is about £150 (they are correct)
Difference between 9th Ovo and Jul 2015 is £169 (you are correct)
Difference between pre-9th and Aug is about £75 (they are correct)
Difference between 9th and Aug is £89 (you are correct)
Making you both half right, actual savings with Ovo over EDF have gone from £150 to £89
Just a guess though, I could be wrong....
(Of course either way, it's still a decent saving)

Hmm... £89 instead of "About £75", I think I'll take the extra £14 hit and hope for another tariff to be announced (I'm sure it was nearer to £75, do these numbers change? Maybe a case of "Never use Facebook or EnergyHelpline after from the pub"!)
Don't see "Flow" on the comparison sites.
8000kWh p.a of electricity? - Well, yes. House of Fish! Five aquariums with associated heaters, pumps & metal halide lighting. Oh, and a pond.
Edit - having now read 2013yearofthehouse's post I have now lost the plot!0 -

I think you have.
It's not a £14 hit, it's an oncost of £128p.a you are paying! For the same stuff, through the same pipes/wires!
Still, look on the bright side, you are saving over £450p.a compared to Ebico prices0 -
On the CEC it said OVO was £40 cheaper than edf for me, sooner stay with edf though, and see where the market is going, for some reason I think prices are going to come down a little.
Wonder of us edf'ers will be changing to September 2015 in a couple of weeks0 -

Do you really think prices are going to fall by another 7.5% or more?
Lets hope so
In the meantime, why stay paying over the odds?
You can always switch back to EDF if they do offer a real cut-price tariff that beats the pants off the competitors.
You can use cashback to offset any early exit fees that a new supplier may charge (and if you take into account cashback switching to the new supplier in the first place, then chances are the total cashback will more than cover any early exit fees)
Better than spending £40 (pro rata) more than you have to.
Or isn't this site about moneysaving anymore since Martin left?0
