Router channel 11 12 usually applies to wifi not sure what rep meant .
If you go fibre you get a new modem and new router .
But it will not fix any problems that are due to your internal wiring .
Fibre will mean a new contract .

In that case you can definitely get fibre and your speeds would be around the 10 meg mark so if i was in your shoes, i would upgrade without hesitation. AFAIK talktalk only charge an extra fiver a month to upgrade to their up to 40/10 fibre service.

edit: ignore other broadband fibre checkers, they won't recognise your TalkTalk number. Treat the BT one as gospel :)

It's not 40/10 its 38/2, you need to get their large fibre to get over 2Mb upload, upto 76/19.

2mb sounds slow. Don't know if I'd want to pay the extra for that. I've checked prices for fibre and it's going to cost £10/month extra and that's for medium fibre.

Btw, does anyone know how far away from the router the cordless landline phone should be? The customer service reps keep talking about interference. Mine is only about 5 ft away. Is that too close? I doubt it's the cause of all this bother but I'm desperate so anything's worth a try.

2Mb is the upload, fine for most people, but BT themselves offer 10Mb on their 38Mb package.

I have two DECT phone base stations about six inches from my router no issues.

Post your line stats as requested and people will have more idea of what might be the problem.

You need to login to your router to do it.
192.168.1.254 might do it but it could be something different depending upon the router. That IP works for most speedtouch/Thomson routers. You will need the username & password.

The agent gave me the password on the phone yesterday but I can't remember it now and it won't let me log in. All the lights were green then.

Just email their CEO, something I did when I had a problem. Received superb service following this.

Thanks rwalton159. I sent an email and got a very polite and fast response. It was great to be able to talk to someone who listened to me and without any communication issues with a foreign call centre, though it is a shame that anyone ends up having to bother the CEO for this sort of issue.

They're sending an engineer tomorrow afternoon. Fingers crossed!
