That was how we got ours done in January - we're not on any means-tested benefit e.g. pension credit, but I'm on AA so we got it through that. Great. Saved us £2,700 for the installation and is continuing to save us money on gas usage which is approx half what it was a year ago. I'm a great believer in 'if you don't ask you don't get'.

We have solid fuel central heating with the boiler situated behind the glass fronted fire. Water is leeking into the fire at a steady drip and having tried Fernox? twice since Saturday we have found in not to be a great success.
We rang Warmfront on Monday and were told somebody would ring to make an appointment to come out and see us, but as yet we have heard nothing. I know it is a bad time of the year for anything like to happen but do you know how long the timescale is for this?
Also, we live in Northumberland, does anybody know which contractors are used for that area that do solid heating boilers?
Reading this post has been a bit scary so we want to be prepared.0 -
Hi Thursdays Child,
My Mum had the assessor out within a month, and then the firm quoting for the work within a further fortnight. The assessors seem to cover a large area - so you may be lucky and fit in with their 'round'. I guess it might all take a bit longer at this time of year, but good luck.0 -
It might be too late for us to go down the Warmfront grant road as the steady drip turned into a constant stream and we had to call out a heating engineer/plumber.
The upshot is, we have a fire that will only heat the room now. no water or radiators, as these had to be turned off to stop the water. The room is 50 square metres so the fire is going to have to work hard!!!
We have had to order a new fire/boiler today, so they can get it from the suppliers to fit it before the end of January. I know this is true as we have dealt with them for years, buying replacement fire bars and so on and are an honourable firm.
We have rang Warmfront and they say we are being put on the emergency pile but not to expect anything before Christmas. What we were wondering is has this happened to anyone else and have they still been awarded the grant?
Any advice you might be able to offer would be great as we are looking at a hugh bill here.0 -
I have had a call from a surveyor who will come to check the central heating. Our problem is that apart from the boiler being very old, on a windy day the fumes come inside the house causes my wife breathing problems.
The pilot seems to go off, I was able to open and switch ON the boiler but now I am not as FIT. Not sure how to deal with surveyor, any advice most appreciated.

Dont worry too much about it..
Just tell the surveyor ur problem..
the gentleman I had was very nice...
Not got my CH heating done yet...
Dreading it ...cos we have so much junk in the house...dunno where to move it all for the fitters to get the system in...0 -
Same here, clutter is such that not sure where to start clearing. Every thing seems useful to keep, I am now wondering if I will ever use this junk. Total clear out is the best order, weather permitting.

That was an unexpected side effect for my Mum - a huge sort out! It was tough going at the time but the house is much more organised now (and warm!) that she is really pleased. Good luck to you both.
Seb, Mum's surveyor was very understanding, too. Your fumes problem sounds a cause for concern, so I hope that in itself will be enough for prompt attention from Warmfront.0
